Microsoft Antivirus (Security Essentials) New Behaviour

Recommended Posts

So a new version came out last night with all of the security updates for July.

Anyone notice that if you had your previous installed copy to disable MAPS (sending info to Microsoft constantly) and then answer every question on the update to keep it DISABLED, it still turns it back on and starts IMMEDIATELY sending out all of the data that you told it not to send out.  Evidently even with MAPS disabled, it still collects all of the data on your computer waiting for the moment to be turned on, and will send ALL of the data from when it was originally installed immediately.

This means running Microsoft Security Essentials, there is literally no way to block it from sending information about every program that you've installed and ran, where you installed it from (website with URL / CD or USB including path to it).

Eh, wish I could carelessly joke about Microsoft blatantly doing the exact opposite of what you tell them to, and what by them asking, you would expect them to do, especially since most of us are running some variant of a Microsoft product on our machines.

Guess it is finally time to do the full switch to Ubuntu or something.

A question good sir, before you leave...

What OS are you running? as if the microsoft one isn't doing as it's told, I can offer a few suggestions on aftermarket ones that are quite, if not very good.

Is this the customer feedback option you're on about?

No, it's the Microsoft Active Protection Service (MAPS) but personally like it to be set to Advanced - it's better for AVs to build up a list of the latest software so that they run more effectively.
