LG's next Android flagship revealed in leaked photos and video

After a first look in May, we may now be seeing more details about LG's upcoming flagship smartphone. Engadget has posted several leaked photos of a new LG device that could succeed last year's Optimus G. The phone is reportedly the Optimus G2, which was referenced in an invitation for an August 7th press event, though that's not confirmed at this point. The phone takes some design language from LG's Nexus 4, with rounded corners, an almost edge-to-edge screen, and no hardware buttons. Its back, however, looks significantly more sloped, without the Nexus 4's hard edges. According to Engadget, it's also significantly larger, with a 5.2-inch 1080p screen.

 

LG has said before that its next Optimus G phone will come with a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, something Engadget's anonymous tipster confirms; it should also have 2GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel camera. The most notable hardware choice, however, is probably a volume rocker set right below the rear camera in the center of the phone. We've seen buttons on the back of phones for some years now, and they're rarely a good idea ? they're often easy to hit accidentally and hard to reach quickly ? but it's definitely a distinguishing feature. While LG has said it's open to more Google partnerships, it's focusing on bringing its own self-branded devices to market, and this phone may lead the way next month.
