Sick after grilling?

Recommended Posts

I must'a grilled about 4 or 5 hours ago.  Did get a lil whiff of smokes but kept outta the way mostly.  Now about 4 or 5 hours later, I've got this lil headache, upset tummy and burping up char flavor (burn burger type flavor).

Do you think I need to go to the ER and get oxygen? :S

Stay away from the smoke when you BBQ. It will make a difference. You are experiencing lack of oxygen from breathing in too much carbon dioxide.

What are you talking about?

When I grilled on the BBQ.  It wasn't till hours later I started feeling this,  lil headache and upset stomach (or nausea)  wondering if I need to seek medical attention, maybe at the ER

Bad meat, improperly cooked meat sounds more likely.  I ate tons of smoke on the 4th--32 hotdogs and 32 hamburgers on my weber charcoal and the only thing i needed was a nap after we ate.

from my servsafe classes, if you had meat out for 4-5 hours, depending on how hot it was, bacteria could grow so rapidly making the meat unsafe for consumption.. leading to food poisoning..

keep the meat and all perishables in the refrigerator until you plan to cook

the temperature danger zone is 40- 140 (F)

The headache and upset stomach are likely related to Food Poisoning. But, if you find the headache worsens when you stand up quickly it may be from low oxygen levels in your bloodstream. If you feel light sensitivity it means you could be getting a Migraine which is known to cause upset stomach. If you vomit than you should go see a GP within the next 24 hours, if you vomit 2 or more times and/or get severe diarrhea you need to see a GP tonight.

If you notice any dis-coordination, nausea or rapid heartbeat you may be suffering from a more serious condition and need to go to the E.D. immediately. Upset stomach and headache is a symptom is a varying degree of illness ranging from not serious at all to potentially life threatening. Having said that though until more symptoms start to arise it's best to assume your body will fix the problem.

In all likelihood, you are fine. Relax.

- check your blood pressure

- avoid physical activity

- drink water

You're maybe suffering both food poisoning, if you've eaten black burned parts or if the meat was bad, and intoxication after inhaling carbon dioxide.

Bearing in mind the champion for eating hotdogs, set a record of 69 the other day, and that a hotdog could equate to a hamburger, and you thus ate 64 - woah!

He doesn't mention eating the cooked goods, only some of the smoke whilst grilling them - logic dictates (on the fact he mentions nap after WE ate) that the cooked goods were distributed for consumption.

Sounds like food poisoning more than anything else.  Have you checked your temperature?

I don't really see how he can get oygen deprivation from an outdoor bbq, that would be really odd.

Also, don't eat burnt food from BBQs, the charred parts have been linked to bowel and intestine cancer.
