Outlook 2011 for Mac w/ Exchange 2013

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here use Outlook 2011 for Mac with an Exchange 2013 account?  If so, I'm hoping to find out some information.

Since I haven't had an Exchange account for a couple of years now, I haven't been able to test it all out with the latest updates to Outlook 2011 and Exchange 2013.

With Windows and at least Outlook 2010 (not sure with Outlook 2013) Outlook basically operated as a server access point.  For example (my specific situation), you could make junk email filter settings changes in Outlook and it reflected on the server.  When I first migrated to Mac and Outlook 2011 a couple of years ago, it didn't have that ability.  So I ended up with two independent junk filters (Outlook and Server Filter).  That was with Exchange 2010.  Now I'm wondering with the release of Exchange 2013 and the updates to Outlook 2011 if that ability has been given back.  Does it still connect via EWS or are you given more options for connecting to the server now?

I realize my stuff is very specific but, I'm hoping in this vast community, lol, someone has some answers.

Thanks.

=)

Mac through Exchange runs as EWS as chaos said

As long as you know that with Exchange 13 it is meant to do everything Exchange 2010 did, just newer.

If you want to properly diagnose though, your going to have to go through learning how to use Management Shell (If your the admin).

To test this bluntly, create a new mailbox (Or ask Admin to do so), and if same issue occurs, it is by design to be separated.

Thats if you do not want to do any boring reading :)

I an say i am running Exchange 2013 with Outlook 2013 and it is SEPARATE for me.

Hope this helps,

So you're running Windows with Outlook 2013 or OSX with Outlook 2011?

With Outlook 2011 (fully updated), you still have 2 sets of rules just like Outlook for Windows (some are offline, and some are server side), except now you can edit the server based rules in Outlook 2011. EWS is still and for the foreseeable future, the only option. If I recall, Microsoft is moving away from MAPI, even for Windows.

Ugh...my main issue was that whatever junk settings I made in Outlook was reflected or changed on the server side as well.  Outlook acted like a server interface.  MS using EWS seems to have stripped away so many good features.

i run outlook 2011 on osx with exchange 2013.

my rules save to the server, if that helps  :)

I came across some information that said rules are now synced up to the server.  However, aren't junk settings separate from rules?

Both.

So with Outlook 2013/Exchange 2013 on a Windows machine, what protocol does it use?  Have they already moved Outlook 2013 Exchange connections over to EWS or are they still using the older way?

Its EWS that's being used.

And junk settings can be set at the Shell of Exchange, but ones saved on outlook ARE independant!

That's a real bummer.  I don't like the idea of having to go into the OWA to make those kind of changes now when I used to be able to use Outlook as the server interface.  Blah.

I won't switch back to Exchange until they improve EWS to include the same stuff as the old connections did.
