Faulty, this comic assumes that smart phone users actually know what a QR code is and has actually and would actually ever scan one.

Fun fact: My boss insists on having QR codes on the next revision of business cards, driving our marketing/webdesign lady bonkers with it.

I use QR codes too. I also think that given the target audience of XKCD it's not unreasonable to assume that their followers will have a higher than average knowledge of QR codes.
