Forza 5 not ready at launch, will require day one download

109 posts in this topic

This is getting off topic and I'm tired of having to justify myself to "people" on a forum.

I switched between original Xbox and PS2 a few times since they launched then I got 360 at launch and kept it till 2011 when I got a PS3, I have used Xbox more than I have used Sony products in my life.

Next gen Sony is doing everything right and Microsoft is doing everything wrong which is why I am highly critical, borderline over the top, against them. I wasn't going to get an X1 until they did the 180 on DRM.

Just because I am highly negative doesn't mean I don't want to play Forza, etc..

Sony is getting everything right? I don't have much faith in Sonys patching system. Even back when is first got broadband and it was a 512kb line, game patches on Xbox took seconds to download and install. My friend even after upgrading to a 8mb/s line patches on PS3 took full minutes to download and then install. Maybe now PSN will cost money it'll get better who knows.

This is news now?  Every new game I get on my Xbox 360  requires an update on release day.  Irritating and annoying as the updates don't seem to do anything.

I do see what you're saying but it's obvious that all this was already planned and good to go before MS reversed their 'connected' decision.

So i wouldn't blame the Dev team at Forza for that, i'd blame the whining 'toys out of pram' types that forced MS to reverse their decision in the first place, this Gen wasn't about finalized disc based games, it was about flexibility, a degree of which has now been removed.

Sounds to me like they don't have time to finish the game so they are using connected console as an excuse to press an unfinished game to a disk that you can't play unless you download all the content that didn't make it in time to be pressed on to the disk. It has nothing to do with DRM policy.

Regardless of my opinions on Microsoft and Sony that is RIDICULOUS.

That being ridiculous is still your opinion though as most people are fine with it.

?So when you first boot up the game, we?re going to ask you to log in,? he explained. ?And when you log in you?re going to get the Drivatars and you?re also going to get a whole bunch of content: tracks and cars. Our production schedule is such that we are putting them in as late as possible and that means making them free as downloadable content on Day One.?

How generous of them to offer the rest of the game for free. TBH this isnt anything new. Devs have been cutting content from games to offer DLC later for years now and its a joke. People are happy to bend over and pay extra though.

I am not blaming anyone I am just dumbfounded why people are OK with downloading a multiple gigabyte patch on day one when everyone is going to be connecting to Xbox Live and downloading the same patch. You are paying $60 for half a game.

The problem is its not optional DLC, it is actual game content that should have been on the disc that you can't play the game until you download that content.

I'm dumbfounded as to how you can't process the fact that we live in a digital world. We're a decade into the 21st century, having to download part of a game isn't a big deal anymore to most people.

I'm baffled that when you think about the amount of time they usually have to work on a racing sim like forza, and how long they've had to work with final xbox hardware, and the deadlines they would have to get something in for certification, that some people are bitching about having to download an update for a LAUNCH GAME to give them extra time to polish rather than simply cutting content and compromising the scope of the game.

Note how it is only the Sony die hards who actually care :/  Boring.

But you're still getting 100% of the game just via different delivery methods.

So you are happy with paying $60 for half a game you can't play until you download multiple gigabytes on a day when thousands if not tens of thousands are trying to connect their Xbox to download the day one system patch and then the day one Forza patch.

We all know how launches go when things have an online component that is required.

Excuses, excuses. I think its pretty shocking at how blas? they are being about telling you they are shipping half the game on disk and the other half they are letting you download for free out of the goodness of their own hearts.

Also I've owned Xbox far longer than I've owned PS3, so yeah Sony die hard, try again.

But you're still getting 100% of the game just via different delivery methods.

I know I am just annoyed that I won't be able to play for 5+ hours when I get mine assuming the launch goes fine and the service doesn't degrade with everyone trying to download a system update then a massive Forza update.

The fact that people with better connections don't care and are just telling me to shut up because I am trolling is making me even more annoyed.

It takes me about 10-15 minutes to download 10gigs. So yeah, I'm okay.

What's more dumbfounding is that people are willing to accept paying for an incomplete product that cannot be used as it is in the form that you initially receive it. Whether we live in the 'digital age' or not is irrelevant.

It is relevant. What's not relevant anymore is your nonsense about the "form you initially received it". You're paying $60 for Forza, and you're getting the full game, you just have to download some of it. In a digital age, its a nonissue. And for those that buy digitally, none of your arguments apply.

I feel sorry for those that have metered internet, what if they don't have the capacity to download however many gigabytes it is, they will have to wait a month before they can even play the game.

Some internet packages in the UK have a 2GB cap, the extra disc on Forza 4 installed 3GB to the HDD, if its bigger than that people are screwed.

Before people say "just upgrade your internet" not everyone downloads and needs unmetered internet. Personally I don't play multiplayer on any console.

Then don't!

You don't get it do you? You buy a disc, the FULL game(not counting later dlc, obviously) should be on that disc. That game that is on that disc should be playable and functional on it's own, as it comes. You shouldn't HAVE to go download half the damn thing off the internet,

Let me put it this way. If you went out and bought a car, but all you received was the wheels, the frame, and the body, And then after buying it you had to take that somewhere else and wait a while to get all the bits that make it work installed. Would you be ok with that? I'd guess you probably wouldn't(unless you're insane, of course). So why is it ok here? Why is it ok here to only receive part of what you paid for and have to go through extra, completely unnecessary steps to make it work as it should have out of the box?

Then don't!

The usual "meh" attitude. If people didn't kick up a fuss Microsoft wouldn't have done a 180 on the DRM. This is a discussion forum believe it or not and I will talk about whatever I want to talk about including Xbox One news explaining what I think the problem is and what I am or am not going to do about it.

But you're getting yourself worked up over an issue which you are in a complete minority.

If you care so much about this issue then complain to Microsoft or Turn 10, not to a forum of people who are OK with it.

They've explained their reasons, and if its a choice of them either shipping a much smaller game, or having a day one download to keep the scope as large as we're used to, I know which option I prefer.

That doesn't count, comparing downloading part of a game to buying a car and bring it to somewhere to get the rest is stupid.

The world we're in at the minute allows for us to download digital content. In fact over the last 2 weeks I've downloaded Uncharted 1 & 2 via PSN. Both where close to 20GB.

Sure it was slow, but I was in no rush to play it. Buy Forza 5 on the xbox store and buy a game that works from disk on day of release and play it whilst you wait for Forza to be downloaded.

I love the fact I can buy games online and don't have to wait for them to be delivered etc. Its great and the more games go to online downloads the better. It makes life so simple.

I feel like being lazy and not wanting to leave the house today, but could do with a new game to play. Jumps on to online store, picks a game & downloads it. few hours later. Its good to go :-)

It's the same concept though. Buying a product that is completely unusable as it originally comes.

Whether the internet exists or not is no excuse for shipping a title that is, well, essentially broken as it comes on the disc.

You seem to be judging an entire console on the consequences of a change of Policy has on currently a single game. Games ship with game-breaking bugs on ALL systems. My friend who has a PS3 on Skyrim despite being on the latest version still can't go anywhere near Water in-game or his entire PS3 locks up. Several key characters in his playthrough have vanished of the face of the Earth.

Im not excusing this behaviour but you're condemning the Xbox as a whole console over a single game.

No I'm happy that I get an awesome day one simulation racer, where I get the full game right away and I can start playing it right away while the game downloads additional free content in the background while I play.

Wen are you going to read the last par of the article you keep quoting. Selective ignore ?
