GFWL cannot download profile

Recommended Posts

I'm having trouble playing games using GFWL, particularly Super Street Fighter IV and Batman: Arkham City; I haven't bothered to test every GFWL game I own.  I can log into GFWL, I can enter in the CD key for the game when applicable, but when it attempts to download my profile, which is apparently a mandatory step, it fails and tells me the network must be down.  I figured GFWL was finally failing or something but surely they will get the servers back up soon.  However, this has been going on for weeks now, so I check out the Steam forums to see if this is a widespread issue and it appears that while some people may have other issues with GFWL, people are playing their GFWL games without incident.  Has anybody else run into this issue and is there a solution?

Have you tried upgrading your GFW client. I know the games pack various different versions with their game.

This should update it to the latest version. It shouldn't cause compatibility problems with older games that use the client.

If I hadn't done that already then Street Fighter wouldn't even load, it would crash to desktop.  So yeah, I always make sure I'm running the latest GFWL, but thanks for the suggestion.

I had this problem the other day. All i did was go to xbox.com and sign in and changed my password. Then i had no problems signing into GFWL.

I have not tried this yet.  Of course, doing that will force me to re-enter it on everything that uses it, including Windows and my phone, so that'll be a pain in the ass, but I will try it and get back to you.

Update: Nope, changing my password did not help.

It occurs to me I should clarify something, although I stated it in the OP as well.  I'm not having trouble signing into GFWL.  After I am signed in and it attempts to download my profile is where it fails.  Anybody else run into this issue?

I have not run into this issue using GfWL, but I have run into this issue using XBL on my Xbox 360 before with my older router. It didn't do NAT and port forwarding very nicely and kicked me out of signing in and downloading data sometimes.

Try and put your PC in a DMZ (in the firewall setting of your router) when you try and download your profile.
