Buying NOD32 from Amazon UK

Question

I noticed this on Amazon, a 3 PC 1 Year box for ?16.99 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Eset-NOD32-Antivirus-Computers-PC/dp/B005NPFO9Y/

Although it says v5 on the box, I understand the subscription works by using a username/password that gives definitions for a year - so it should work in v6 if I installed it from Eset's site?

Any disadvantages to buying this versus paying ?44.99 for a 3 PC 1 Year licence directly from Eset?

To make matters more confusing, Amazon also have a 1 PC 1 Year (yes, 1 PC) licence for ?27.99 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Eset-NOD32-Antivirus-One-Computer/dp/B005NPFOD0/ which makes no sense.

Yes, the v5 licence does work on v6 as this is exactly how I did it. I'm up for renewal end of this month and I'm going to do the same again this year.

No disadvantges as far as I know.

Hello,

I'm reasonably sure that ESET's UK distributor does not sell through Amazon, so you could be looking at something like a trial license being re-sold as a genuine one, or a counterfeit copy made with some kind of license key generator.  Or it's possible that it's a one-time kind of offer they are doing to get rid of old inventory of the V5 boxed retail product.  In any case, I would suggest contacting ESET's UK distributor directly so you don't end up getting ripped off.

The way ESET does licenses is that they are product, and not version, based.  So, if you purchased a legitimate license for ESET Smart Security, you'd be able to install any currently-supported version (V3-V6) on your computer.

Well the link he gives is the product being sold directly by Amazon UK so I doubt it wouldn't be legit.

So he should be fine then.

The discounting of AV products is commonplace when a new version is released, even if (as goretsky suggests) product licensees can freely upgrade to whatever's the latest.

In my experience this sort of thing is common place; retailers will discount one specific variant of a product compared to another due to buying quantities or an offer they got from the distributor. It's also not unusual for a retailer to undercut the manufacturer's web-store (in fact it's common for Kaspersky and Norton AVs).
