McKay
For a little more comfort, next time you have to do this, take your phone into one of their stores and show them what Neowin is, (if possible) and that there's no porn on it (under basic membership) that way your arguement is that it's also blocking legitimate sites. I told them over the phone they were blocking Technology Forums I visit, he just said "I can't control what the filter blocks". Was probably some of the babe photos in the Forum or keywords picked up. Also won't Operas "Web compression" mode circumvent this? All data gets send back to Operas servers, compressed and sent back to you, so you're using an Opera Proxxy effectively, it allowed people to access PirateBay when using Opera. Won't that block be picked up by this EU directive? http://www.zdnet.com/online-throttling-and-site-blocking-to-be-outlawed-in-europe-under-net-neutrality-plan-7000016324/
illage3
not sure if serious I am serious. Like it or not we need to expose kids to this stuff, otherwise they won't learn right from wrong. You need to teach kids to think for themselves, if you don't they won't be able to do anything in their adult life.

Wouldn't surprise me, they probably check very little to see what their block actually blocks, then do nothing about fine tuning it. The Evil Overlord
I am serious. Like it or not we need to expose kids to this stuff, otherwise they won't learn right from wrong. You need to teach kids to think for themselves, if you don't they won't be able to do anything in their adult life. When I was growing up, porn was harder to get as we all had to borrow a videotape from someone who had it. Porn has always been there. The reason I said not sure if serious was because I didn't understand what you were trying to get at. For a little more comfort, next time you have to do this, take your phone into one of their stores and show them what Neowin is, (if possible) and that there's no porn on it (under basic membership) that way your arguement is that it's also blocking legitimate sites. Is my post and it stated Neowin, my post to mckay was for him to show that a legitimate site is being blocked, and that this isn't a porn site. You said Oh yeah a good thought. What about legitmate sites such as Neowin and Google (of all sites) So it left me confused But going on I am serious. Like it or not we need to expose kids to this stuff, otherwise they won't learn right from wrong. You need to teach kids to think for themselves, if you don't they won't be able to do anything in their adult life. I agree that parenting these days is in my opinion, less than adequate, almost lazy in fact. Censorship can never be allowed under any circumstances. That is the brutal truth. I disagree, some stuff is better censored or removed altogether, (child porn, beheading videos, to name 2) As it only angers society and promotes hatred againt innocent members of a race. Dan~
If you are an existing customer you don't need to do ANYTHING, if you want porn. If you want to block you have to ring up and ask them to put it on. If you are new, you will have the choise to stay in or opt-out
mulligan2k
In other words, you have to opt out. Seriously, did you try that reading back to yourself before you posted it? :p lol i know what you mean, but choosing between two ticks boxes is different to having to phone up your isp, confirm your details, prove your age and then consent to turn off the filter If you are an existing customer you don't need to do ANYTHING, if you want porn. If you want to block you have to ring up and ask them to put it on. If you are new, you will have the choise to stay in or opt-out other way round for existing, if you do nothing then it will be blocked by default

Hum
Im waiting for them to keep a list of everyone who "Opts in" for Porn and use that list against you. Most of the opt-ins will probably be teenie-boppers.

The list of names will be used to publicly humiliate and blackmail innocent people who feel they don't need the filters they are proposing. FlintyV
I don't have a problem with libraries filtering stuff. It's public use. It's a false-positive in the example but I don't mind filtering at public facilities.
