aL Doom Posted July 22, 2013 Share Posted July 22, 2013 Hi all, I have been having a small issue that has been getting me stomped the past week. I have an Asus n56vz. For the past week, when ever the laptop is restarted, shutdown, or put to sleep, the laptop does not finish the function and remains on in an unresponsive state (need to hold power button 10 secs to force it off). I tried the following: -Reset BIOS settings -Upgrade BIOS -Format PC -Swap the RAM with a different module and nothing worked. If anyone has ran into a similar issue, please post any insight! Although I do not know how to fix this, and I apologise for that, have you tried cleaning all the vents, fans etc..? joemailey Posted July 22, 2013 Share Posted July 22, 2013 There is a few things you can check, I've had this problem before and the fix was to do with the IEEE bus host controllers. Go into the windows control panel and the device manager to the tab for IEEE-1394 Bus Host Controllers and click the tab to expand it then right click for properties and under power managment click "Allow the computer to turn off this device...." and all is back the way it should be! There is also a KB article about clean boots - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 following that article and disabling things to you get a proper shutdown/restart and then enabling things bit by bit until you find the issue.
