If you could go back in time...

If you could go back in time with just a backpack, where, why, what would you do?

If I could go back in time, I'd go to the year 2000.

Not only would I plan on stopping 9/11, but I would bring my newest laptop with Windows 7 AND the ISO of Windows 8.1; as well as the iPhone 5.

I would then try to get a meeting with Bill Gates and offer Windows 7 and 8.1 to him for....  a million dollars a year for the rest of my life?

I'd then tell him I have the key to Apple's dominance over the next 15 years, and tell him if he wants to see the iPhone, and have it and backwards engineer it, it would be another 2 million a year for the rest of my life.

I'd do this for two reasons, one the cash. Two, and most importantly, it would help push software and hardware up by 13 years. This would allow for more innovation frankly better technology quicker.

I wouldn't meet myself, but would split the cash in half and put it into his account.

I would choose Microsoft because, even though they were evil, I think they are the less evil in 2013. Of course, I may offer Apple to see all that stuff as well.

I just would love to see Gates face when I say... yeah, the next OS is Vista, and it will be a flop.

I'm sure I would do more, but I just thought of this last night in bed.

What would you do if you can go back in time and bring a backpack? And why?

I don't think that's how you play this game... :(

why not  :P ? If not, you'd be rich as fcuk :P

I would write down all the major lotteries for the USA and give them to my family and friends :)

Although it seems cruel, I wouldn't change anything as large as 9/11. I'd try to change as little as possible. (Minus abusing my future knowledge for financial gain  )

How would you stop 9/11 exactly? And how would you prevent yourself from being locked away for eternity by the US Government trying to explain how you knew. Until then you'd be a crazy person running the streets screaming what would sound like crazy-talk?

Unless you're going to go all "Taken" style and track down the terrorists and murder them one by one?

Me? I'd go back to the 20's 30's 40's etc. Go to a Jazz Club in New York someplace and soak in the atmosphere.

I know, I know.  So now for my real answer:

I would love to go back to the late medieval era i.e. the time of Robin Hood.

Why?  To see if he was actually based on a real person or not.

What would I take?  A tablet loaded with entertainment and knowledge, a solar charger, and most likely a weapon of some sort for protection.

I'd go back in time and pimp slap / donkey punch the person/team who came up with the tiled interface in Windows 8 and relevant phone crap.

You can not modify key moments in time dont you watch Dr Who :D

and just for a bit of confusion to the discussion

Eternalism addresses these various difficulties by considering all points in time to be equally valid frames of reference?or equally "real", if one prefers. It does not do away with the concept of past and future, but instead considers them directions rather than states of being; whether some point in time is in the future or past is entirely dependent on which frame of reference you are using as a basis for observing it.

Since an observer at any given point in time can only remember events that are in the past relative to him, and not events that are in the future relative to him, the subjective illusion of the passage of time is maintained. The asymmetry of remembering past events but not future ones, as well as other irreversible events that progress in only one temporal direction (such as the increase in entropy) gives rise to the arrow of time. In the view suggested by Eternalism, there is no passage of time; the ticking of a clock measures durations between events much as the marks on a measuring tape measures distances between places.[citation needed]

Eternalism has implications for the concept of free will, in that it proposes that future events are as immutably fixed and impossible to change as past events (see determinism).[citation needed]

Eternalism makes two assumptions, which are separable. One is that time is a full-fledged real dimension. The other is immutability. The latter is not a necessary consequence of the first. A universe in which changes are possible may be indistinguishable from the fully deterministic many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics in which there are multiple "growing block universes."[citation needed]

I'd give Microsoft a Lumia 1020 and my Surface RT, and tell them to mass produce the hell out of them before the year 2007.

I think about time travel all the time. It's one of my my favorite topics. Usually I think of really serious things though, like being with my old friends and family, and just changing how life ended up in general.

But I guess for light-hearted stuff, I always wanted to bring a Nintendo Wii back to 1995 with a copy of Super Smash Bros Brawl and shock kids because of Sonic and Mario being in the same game. Also wanted to bring my PC to the 90s. Bring some 1980s rock to the 1800's on a portable boombox, take an mp3 player to the era of walkmen. So much to do...

man i cant even think on what would i do... there are so many things!

but i dont think i'd go back aiming for money (at least not as a primary objective)... i'd like to do something better for the world as preventing slavery to even be discussed as an option for example.. i'd have to go back a long time for that lol

If I could go back in time... I would.

Am I unimaginative here?

Mostly I'd try to correct some of my more costly mistakes by exhausting each option until acceptable outcome is found.

Haven't you watched Back to the Future? Messing with the past is dangerous - you can upset the space-time continuum!

Timecop is another good film which explores time travel for personal financial gain.

You do realize 9/11 happened in September of 2001 ... ?

And events don't work that way.

There is a mass organization at many levels, when events happen that affect a large number of people.

The actions of one person will not prevent certain outcomes. ;)

I'd like to back in time, and buy a truck load of gasoline at 90 cents gallon then sell it now for $4.00/gallon.

Too many branches from every event in time to work out the full ramifications, the adversity, pain and hardship of man is one of the driving forces behind our progress as individuals and a whole...so with that said:

I'd go back and beat steve to founding neowin...then id have the money and the babes

I would also go back in time and assassinate hitler, tip off the police about the guy who's about to kill JFK, warn people about the hinderberg and titanic, warn people about a potential terrorist attack on 911 and my list will go on, but that's just sample.
