Games that you would like to see made

Recommended Posts

I've always wanted to get into Videogame Development.  I have made a few games here and there, and started like 20 in XNA, but always got bored of it (possibly due to the daunting tasks).

I've been working on and off for a couple months (only a month or so worth of work total) on an mmo game written in C++ using SDL.  This is my first big C++ app, and first game not using a pre-setup system (outside of small games like Tetris, TicTacToe, Snake, etc).   It is going to be pretty cool..

However the one thing I am doing, is making this game for me.   I am not making a game for what other people want, as everyone wants something different.  Too many companies make cookie cutter games hoping for bites at the profit, but those markets are so saturated you need to stand out to get any attention.

If I were you, I would look at designing the game you want, the game you want to play, the game that you would pick up and play.   Once you have that done, then look at ideas and suggestions from other people and look at how you can fit them into your game without changing it.

I kind of want to see new IPs and ideas. Not rehashing history to death.

So, what kind of new IPs and ideas would you like to see? That is why I like the platform game with RPG elements and an open world concept as it incorporates all of the genres that I like in gaming.

I admire the new IP and new Ideas that is great, but I want to get into the details all of it.

It's easy to label something, it is much harder to put the pieces together.

Well, if you can find like minded people that have skills and also are good at time management things can get done and goals can be met.

I love RPG games, platform games, and Open World Sandbox games and combining all of those into a game that is dynamic and colorful is what appeals to me and I would love to do this. In fact like I said if this cell/data business works out and I can use my money to finance a game company, which is another dream of mine.

The last breath of the true Westwood, Emperor: Battle For Dune was before its time. And live action sequences! As dumbed-down, twisted and flattened as its simple war-centric backstory was: live action, ffs! They probably cost more than making the rest of the game. Oh, and (non-canon) house Ordos - my favorites.

Funny that you're talking about Emperor, I installed it on Windows 8 last sunday. Working fine so far.

Btw, Harkonnen FTW!! because they are red :D

This is the style of game I am making,  Open world (Persistant World ie) I start a fire, you see it.  I cut down a tree, it's gone.  I plant a tree... it's there).  With RPG elements, but they are tied in in different ways.  There is two levels to the RPG.  I don't want to put too much out there as I haven't seen many/any games near what I am making.

I see a lot of sequels and re-hashes but what about something genuinely original?

Been thinking about a story line where Earth is invaded and humans are fighting back. I know done before but I have been trying to twist so the story line runs along 3 perspectives, soldiers, civilians and alien. Brief synapsis would be along the lines of (from civilian) aliens turn up, war breaks out and humans are pushed to smaller pockets of resistance cells. From the soldiers perspective would be the start to the finish of the war plus adding into the resistance movements. The aliens would tell the story long before the invasion and this would show the true story and add a few twists.

Lots more to go into but the hardest part is making any game/story truly original.

sounds like a combination of Mass Effect and Homefront :p

Been thinking some more... I'd really like to see a grand strategy game that goes through all of history and into the future, with the granular detail that existing strategy games often give. So like the Civilization series in the "long term" scope, but with the era-specific details you find in Paradox titles like Hearts of Iron, Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings. Would be one huge undertaking though.

SUPERMAN done right before I die...

I mean the game should really play out his origin all the way to Darkseid.:

You start the game as Pa Kent driving with Martha and you see the ship crash you walk to it and you get the kid...

Then it flashes to several years later, your a young Clark (about age 6-8 or so) and there's an explosion and you save your parents...

And then it flashes through young years to get you acclimated with controls, powers (and as they grow), etc...

Then you start chapters, Lex Luthor Saga, Zod, and so forth... But they have to kind of intertwine like in the movie Crash or something....

Your finally tired of Luthor's crap and had enough... Then all of a sudden there is a disturbance because of the arrival of Zod... finally able to get him and his cohorts back to the Phantom Zone... then all of sudden you have to deal with Darkseid...  But they would have to find a way for the game to be about 12- 15 hours or it wouldn't be acceptable...  And they would have to give you access to Our entire galaxy, no invisible walls.  Let Supe's fly all the way to the Sun or Pluto for that matter... And it has to be at the speed of light... Fight Zod in space or on ground as you chase each other back and forth... And when you used Super Breath you really see the results of it, because the person or object is frozen solid...

And there would have to be a playground mode.. Example, you can pick up a car or a small building and chuck it easily into outer space, but you are able to blow it up with heat vision no matter how far away it is... Or if you fling a car and its heading towards space very quickly, you can take off at speed of light and catch it before it leaves Earths Orbit...

Fund things like that would be good...  They finally got BATMAN right... now its Superman's turn... And a XMEN MMO/Campaign game where the characters are a little bigger (Like the Size of Drake from Uncharted) and of course according to their size... And your mutant powers arent limited...

The job that was done with Black Mesa has left me with a hankering to see more old games remade on modern engines. I'd especially like to see the single player campaign of Goldeneye adapted for PC on a modern game engine.

I am also loving the look of the Abe's Oddysee HD remake, I hope they do Exoddus as well.

You know what I'd like? For all those terrible NES games with interesting plots to be re-done. Ironsword was pretty dope when I think about the lore but it was a terrible game.

Gears of War for PC Enhanced. UE3 on a modern system shows how bad portions of it were. Variable Vsynch that can't be turned off, what??? Still looks great most of the time though. Maybe the best TPS/Cover ever.
