'Fake cop' robbers caught, aren't fakes

Recommended Posts

As if things aren't bad enough in Detroit, as soon I started writing this post the news flashed that a second cop has been arrested in the 'fake cop' robberies, this one a member of the Michigan State Police. Apparently the Detroit and MSP officers are old buddies from their Academy days.

The third robber is still at large. I guess the next question is are they the only ones, and if not WTF are people supposed to do? Driving to a nearby PD station is what was advised, but if senior officers are involved....

Detroit police sergeant arrested in connection to string of robberies

One of the suspects who allegedly posed as a fake Detroit police officer, and beat and robbed several people, may not have been faking all along.

The Detroit Police SWAT team arrested a Detroit police sergeant, a 20-year veteran of the police force, when he arrived at the 12th precinct on the city's west side. The sergeant is allegedly one of the suspects wanted in an armed robbery of Detroit citizens.

Last weekend, police said two men dressed as officers allegedly pistol-whipped customers pumping gas at the Citgo gas station near I-94 and French Road on Detroit's east side. They took off with the victims' cash and cell phones.

The suspects had police badges, guns and bulletproof vests.

Investigators believe these men may be responsible for another recent robbery in the city, where crooks posing as officers targeted innocent people.

In that case, a man was pulled over on Harper Ave. near 3 Mile Dr. Three men, two white and one black, exited the unmarked Crown Victoria.

As the victim answered questions from one of the men posing as a police officer, the other two rifled through the victim's car, stealing his wallet and CD's.

The Detroit Police will hold a media briefing Monday at the Detroit Public Safety Headquarters.

Correction on the OP: the second arrested officer wasn't a MI State Police trooper as first reported but a St. Claire Shores Sgt. with 17 years seniority. St. Clair Shores is an upscale lakefront community 13 miles north of downtown Detroit. Witnesses photographed one of the robberies with their phones, which alliwed the ID to be made.

Still effed up, and the authorities are still investigating.
