Actress Eileen Brennan, costar of 'Private Benjamin,' dies

Eileen Brennan, an actress who was nominated for an Academy Award for her supporting role in the 1980 comedy ?Private Benjamin,? has died. She was 80.

Brennan died of bladder cancer Sunday at her home in Burbank, said her publicist, Jessica Moresco.

Brennan?s other film credits in a long career included ?The Sting? (1973) and ?The Last Picture Show? (1971) as well as Peter Bogdanovich's "Last Picture Show" sequel, ?Texasville? (1990).

After appearing with Goldie Hawn in ?Private Benjamin,? Brennan starred in the TV series spinoff, winning an Emmy Award for her portrayal of Capt. Doreen Lewis.

Her survivors include two sons, Sam and Patrick; two grandchildren; and a sister, Kathleen Howard.

RIP :(

VERY much enjoyed her work. She was one of the great female character actors for almost 30 years. Not a bad run considering the rapid flameout rate today.

I remember her in Murder by Death.

 

She wasn't a favorite, but I wish her well.
