Bryan000
Here is a problem that I am having. Maybe someone here can help... Okay. My Windows XP box freezes completely anytime a webpages uses an embedded Windows Media Player 6.4. (the one located at C:Program FilesWindows Media Playermplayer2.exe ) When I say freeze... I mean, I can't move my mouse, I can't use ctrl+alt+del, I can't do anything, it locks up. I am forced to do a power-off reboot. I can open Windows Media Player 6.4 and play files, but it will freeze if say, I go to a website say for example, ifilm.com and try to play a windows media file. The site will open a small IE window that has windows media player 6 inside of it, and then, it freezes. :( This has happened consistently every single time that a site (not just iflm.com, ANY site) that calls for WMP6 to play files. So far I have avoided this by (obviously) avoiding sites or links that will launch WMP6 or that I think may launch it. Because of this... I am almost forced to boycott the WMP format when streaming is concerned because I have no other choice (some of you may say this is a GOOD thing, heh). I do not have this problem with WMP8. I can not delete WMP6 (I have tried, Windows will recreate the .exe) I DO NOT have WMP6 associated with any file types (they are all assigned to WMP8 or other programs) So, my question is, has anyone experienced this problem? And does anyone know a possible solution? A short rundown of my system specs... AMD Athlon 800mhz Microsoft Windows XP Pro (installed using "clean" install not upgrade, on a formated fat32 drive) 16mb agp NVIDIA TNT2 (latest drivers from nvidia.com, problem has occured with other drivers though, I don't feel this is related) motherboard: unknown :( 128mb sdram Thank you! And I would use 8 but sometimes you have no choice! Since WMP8 can't imbedd itself into a webpage for some reason, XP still has WMP6.4 for that. I think this is rather stupid actually... but, not much I can do about it.and mmr2001 I will try your advice, I'm willing to try anything at this point ^_^ ****update**** I tried setting wmp6.4 in compatibility mode but I can't. the options are greyed out. I guess this is a tell-tale sign that MS does not intend for it to be ran in compatibility mode, and is a special version of 6.4 to run on XP :) for reference, here is the version number: 6.4.9.1120

Silvorgold
if its a software problem i just uninstall it...cept the darn integrated stuff...then if i cant fix those proggiez, i just use alternatives, like when ie6 didnt work properly due to a virus that was on my comp for a few hrs, i had to use mozilla in the mean time due to moving files to cd....
