Nintendo wii question

Recommended Posts

So I want a change and have been debating getting a Nintendo wii.  I would like to play some games with my wife, since 360 really isn't for two people playing at once ( none of the games are meant for 2 players at once.)

I have a question though, are the refurb units game stop sells anygood?  They have a refurb black wii for $69 (online only) and a Wii black bundle (Wii sports and resort, one controller) $129

Which is a better deal?   Why should I buy new instead of the refurb? OR why buy the refurb over the bundle.

I have checked amazon and gamestop's website,  some games are cheaper on amazon,  some are cheaper (used) at gamestop, so I'd be buying the games from both places.

There are quite a few games with Co-Op on 360, use this to search for (2) on Couch - http://www.co-optimus.com/system/1/xbox360.html

None that we play, or are interested in.

Tennis, bowling, Mario kart, few other sports games on the wii we enjoy playing together.

Mario Kart is by far one of our favorites so that's why I have started checking out the Wii.

Usually the refurbs still have the Gamecube ports on them which allows you to play 600+ Gamecube games on your Wii. No new bundles, AFAIK, offer the Gamecube ports as they were taken out some time last year.

How do I know if it has that?

If you get Wii, buy New Super Mario Bros Wii. We play it alot with my gf, one of the best games on Wii. Been thinking of gettin Wii U just because of New Super Mario Bros Wii 2.

After looking at the website there's no real way of actually knowing, which is a shame. Either way, Gamestop aren't the only place that does pre-owned Wiis. I'd recommend looking around and seeing if you can grab one which has those ports.

Yeah that's on my list to get. A few games. I'll probably pick up the refurb at the store instead of online. $79 in the store then just incase it doesn't work.

I'll probably get it before their buy one get one ends. I also have a premium card power rewards I think it is. Maybe I'll get more of a sale.

Me and my Wife play our Wii a bit. We also spend $70 (AUD) on a refurbished Wii from EB Games. Was worth the price after I added the Wode.

How comfortable are you with electronics? I highly suggest looking into the Wode Jukebox for the Wii.

Easy:

If you see the box which has a Wii like bed-sided then it DOES NOT HAVE the Gamecube ports. If you find one that it is stood, then yes it has gamecube ports.

For example, this Wii is the one who does not have the gamecube ports:

This wii has the gamecube ports

Note. There are newer Wiis (like mine) which has the Wii Remote Controller with Motion plus built in.

Remember, look for the one which is stood, not the one bed-sided like the first picture.

Edit:

This was the one which I bought.

I'll have to remember this, however the refurb boxes at Gamestop are not OEM boxes like that, so I don't think I'd be able to tell from looking at the box.

$70 isn't too bad, so i'll probably just go for that.

no need for any of that, the mac address/message hack is much easier and does not require opening up the wii.  just need sd card and an external hard drive and you are good to go.

When in GameStop just tell them you want one with GameCube ports and that's what they'll grab. That's all I had to do. They don't seal the boxes so they can just open it right up and take a look.

Little tip if you have any soldering skills: If you can't find one with GameCube ports, but have access to a dead one with those ports, they can be soldered on and you'll have Gamecube compatibility. All they did was remove the ports. The actual function is still there. Friend of mine did it to a few he got cheap off eBay and there's videos of it on YouTube.

EDIT: Most of the refurbs at GameStop should be ones with the ports. That's all both of my local stores have.

New or refurbished Wii does not matter.

As well as you stick with the non-single player games you two will be happy.  Wii is not fun playing alone.

Gamestop is a good resource for Wii games, and you do not have to wait for game to arrive by mail.

And yes, you need a Gamecube controller to play Gamecube games and remember to buy a Memory Card for Gamecube/Wii.

Get Gamecube controllers either at EB Games/Gamestop to from Ebay.

(Edit - not necessarily multiplayer but)

Muramasa: The Demon Blade is a great single player / side scrolling action game. Beautiful sprite graphics.

Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story are great single player jrpg's.

Make sure it's not the 2nd revision of the Wii, it removed Gamecube compatibility.

Check to see if the wii has game cube ports / card slots on the slide (there's a lid)

So they changed the Wii and took the Game Cube ports away?

Just purchased one through a local selling Facebook page, it has GC ports, not that I have any Game Cube games...
