Chromecast won't connect to network

Recommended Posts

I just got my Chromecast today and my tablet find it OK but when I get to the phase to connect it my network, I get the error "Connection problem during Setup! Chromecast**** could no connect to *** - please check your wifi name". I have a Netgear R6300 router and every wireless device I own has no problem connecting to it. Anyone know if there is a known issue with my router?

What kind of weird settings you put on the router?

Gotta be some setting causing issues, or a bad Chromecast?

No "weird settings". I changed my tablet from my 5GHz band to 2GHz and now it works. I guess it doesn't work with 5GHz band routers.

Yep I found that out. Doesn't do surround sound either.

CC is kind of funny.  My one laptop would see the CC and when it tried to connect to configure it, would keep connecting/disconnecting.  Had to use a different laptop to set it up.

I had the same problem... Worked great from any wireless device on my network, but when I tried to connect to it from my desktop PC wouldn't work. I actually posted on XDA about it.

I have a N600 router that it is plugged into. I couldn't get it to work for anything.. I even talked to NetGear tech support and they didn't even know a chromecast was.

Finally the last thing I did was uninstalled my built in network card from Device Manager.. Rebooted and let windows reinstall the drivers and it fixed it.. I can now see it from my windows pc.  btw.. Its an Nvidia built in nic card

  • 10 months later...

I am having the same problem but it won't connect to my network / wifi hotspot on my cell phone, is there something else I need to do.  It goes through all the motions of connecting right down to me seeing the code on my tv screen but I get the message that it cannot connect to my network and for me to check my network
