Update LibreOffice to most current with apt-get in Ubuntu 12.4

Recommended Posts

For those new people who wish to make the switch to Ubuntu linux 12.4, I found some info on how to update from the libre office 3.5 to the Libre office 4.1

if you do NOT have Libre Office installed at all try this to get it installed:

sudo apt-get install libreoffice

So, I'll use my situation in this example for upgrading to Libreoffice 4.1.x, in my case simply 4.1 (I started out with Libreoffice 3.5 which comes installed with Ubuntu 12.4)

first, in terminal type in.. (I added the 4-1 myself which my help was 4-0 since 4-1 is now out!!)

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-4-1

then type in terminal..

sudo apt-get update

Finally, type this command in to upgrade your system accordingly to work with LibreOffice

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

It will take some time to install and you'll see alot of file and package updates taking place but it worked quite well for me.

good morning Growled. I have a question, I'm on 12.4 LTS. when will the next LTS come out? I think I'll stick to LTS versions only for the added long support cycle.

12.4 gets supported until... next year correct? so maybe 13.xx LTS will show itself. I'm not familiar with the canonical cycles.

Thank you Max. well, maybe I'll go ahead after all and simply update when they become available with a 5 year cycle.

The actual version number will be 14.04, I think. I usually don't stick to LTS because I like newer software. You can get a PPA for almost everything, but not for everything.I keep my home file slim and trim and always backed up, so I have no problem re-installing if I need to. But to each their own, :)
