[UK] Any ISPs offer contract lengths under 18 months?

Do any UK ISPs offer contract lengths under 18 months?

My parents signed up to Plusnet a year ago and they only offered 18-month contracts. That's too long for me.

Lots of smaller ISP's do like Zen but this only applies to their ADSL/ADSL2+ offerings. Its different with FTTC as BT Openreach impose a minimum term of 12 months.

Most, if not all the major players offer 12-18 month contracts, that I'm aware of.

Interesting point you bring up though, as some do regret going with certain isp's, only to have found out they could have gotten a better deal with a rival 6 months down the line.

Post Office Home phone and broadband are 12 months. They use TalkTalk as their wholesale provider now.

In fact - Plusnet are also 12 months.

  1. This offer is only available to customers signing up for a 12 month minimum term. If you leave Plusnet in your first 12 months you will have to pay an early termination charge relating to the period remaining on your contract.

From the Sky site, for broadband.

Speeds vary with location and line quality. No traffic management policy for Sky Broadband Unlimited or Sky Fibre Unlimited. External factors such as internet congestion can affect speed.

Sky network and selected fibre areas only. Sky Broadband Connect at ?17 a month is available to customers outside our network area (?30 set-up cost for existing Sky TV customers). Connect has a monthly usage cap of 40GB and is subject to a Traffic Management Policy. Sky Fibre Unlimited not available to existing fibre customers except cable. Sky Line Rental payable (?14.50 per month). 12 month min subscriptions apply.

Hope that helps

Virgin Media do, but you have to choose your contract carefully.

I think it might be the internet only (IE no phone line), which means you have to have fiber.

BT provide 12 month contracts last time I looked but as usual line rental still applies

They do, but as with many ISP that provide 12 month contract it's limited to the lower-mid end offerings and the top packages or best deals are only 18 month... unless of course you call them up and get them to do you a 'deal'.

Maybe a little pricey compared to the major players, but Zen Internet's broadband is on a one month contract. Been with them pretty much since broadband existed and never had a complaint.

They have monthly usage caps, eugh. Not for me. I always download at least 1000 GB per month.

ADSL24 do 1month contracts. However, it'll take 9 months to fix a fault.

Resellers of Entanet tend to offer 1month contracts IIRC

Always amazes me how people manage such huge amounts. Don't think I've ever gone past 50-60GB.  (And I'm on the 'net nearly all day every day as I'm a web developer.)

Just goes to show how much people's 'net use varies. I've never had a large usage amount.

Two examples are:

1) I game on Steam a lot (and I regularly have to download games from my library).

2) I have a Greasemonkey script that automatically switches YouTube stream to 1080p ones.

Little things like the above soon add up.

P.S. I used to live in Cannock :)

Plusnet's Unlimited (without phone) defaults on a 12 month contract. You can actually be un-contracted but the package costs more.

http://www.plus.net/home-broadband/unlimited/broadband-only/

As long as you don't want fiber because BT actually contract the ISP to an 18month contract which gets handed down to the consumer. Hence why all FTTC packages (expect Virgin) are 18 months.
