So many high horses in here. I'd be genuinely interested in taking the people who said they'd rather starve and lock them in a room with no food and a button that, when pressed, delivers a freshly cooked Big Mac Meal into the room. Just to see how many people stay true to their word and starve to death.

In my village if you want any food after 10 o'clock your only choice is a 24/7 McDonalds 16 miles away. The comparisons being made here make it sound like McDonalds is physically disgusting, sure it's not great, but it serves its purpose. Cheap quick food that's not bad. I enjoy it.

McDonald's isn't that bad over here either. Sure it's still fastfood but some of their burgers have pretty good meat, the vegetables are fresh and they taste good.

The 1955 (Europe only I think) is pretty good. As are the 'Petit' variants, for example the Petit Texas or Petit Crispy Bacon. They all have 100% beef burgers that are quite good.

I wouldn't even travel one foot. If I were standing outside of a McDonalds, I'd travel 25 miles to get food somewhere where it actually tastes good and is good for me.

But many of those travelers could just be making pit stops during their daily commutes.

There are microwave burgers, similar to this, which aren't too bad, if you add the right cheese, ketchup, onion:

I work on the road across Canada, and in some remote towns there's nothing. Pizza pizza closes at 11. One night we left the bar starving and me and my buddy took an 80 dollar cab ride round trip for McDonald's.

No way I'd pay $80 on a cab to a McDonalds.

As to higher end burgers: One-Eyed Betty's in Ferndale has what's considered the best burger in the Detroit area: fresh ground steak, sharp artisan cheddar, applewood bacon, green tomatoes and garlic aoili** on a sliced brioche. Lots of restaurants & taverns with high-end burgers around here.

(** may-like sauce made of garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and egg yolks, sometimes with mustard or other goodies)

McDonalds is for food emergencies only

What about those Mcdonalds fanatics that travel the country following "Where to find a McRib" leads?

This must be Americans traveling 25 miles. I dont see people in Europe would do this. Americans are a very strange bunch now just on this but on eveything.

The food quality in the US is garbage compared to the rest of the world. Been over seas to Europe many times and EU food standards and quality by far surpasses the US. People in Europe actually "cook" their own meals while most Americans eat out or make frozen foods at home or buy stuff already made.

Not to mention Americans have no right to a paid vacation or no labour protection from abusive employers that can force them to work unlimited hours in a week.

This article just proves again that society in USA is so messedup. Most of the sheep in USA are so blind and have never been over seas and they will defend usa all the way lol.

Food quality is not better in Europe. There is just more cheap/crap food available in the US. This is as dumb as the "US Beer sucks" argument.

I'd buy my own meat, cheese, buns, cook at home -- before I'd travel 25 miles.

Me to.  Same or cheaper cost and 75% more food.

I agree with people here, McDonalds is ######.  I find Burger king to be much better.   My local takeaway is much better than both of them, and they deliver to my door :)

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't go out of my way for a McDonalds, but I don't agree with the general consensus here that it's awful food. It does what I need it to do. And when everywhere else is closed on a Sunday evening, I'm not snobbish enough to go, "eww, McDonalds. Never!"

That said, traveling 25 miles for a meal there? That's insane.

IF a fast food joint is necessary for time reasons, and that situation does does pop up occaisionally, I'd go to Wendy's, Checkers, Sonic or Culver's, or one of the local independents (several good options) before McD's or BK. Odds are it won't even be a burger.

In the UK the McD's is way better to what you find when you're in the US. Even still, I only go there to either eat the Big Tasty or the Chedder Deluxe like what they've got on now, other than that, bit crap.

In the UK, its more about the 5 trillion take away's you can pick from on sites like just-eat. You can find some corkers to deliver to your door.

I wouldn't drive from my carport to my mailbox for any fast food.

Unfortunately here in NJ there are fast food restaurants everywhere...

In my old town, there were 2 burger kings, 3 McDonalds, 2 Wendy's, a KFC, 2 Popeyes, a Little Caesars, a Papa Johns and a Taco Bell all within 5 minutes traveling distance of each other.

I used to grab a quick lunch from any of them.  Now I stay away from all of them

I wouldn't make a trip to get to a McDonalds for no reason. I would probably do that if I am out on vacation in search of a meal.
