Used Luxury Car

Recommended Posts

I drive a 2003 F150 single cab truck, it only has 95k miles and it is an awesome truck. I spend about $350/month on gas. I'm trying to justifiy if I should keep it or not, I get about 12-15mpg on it, my commute to work is 40 miles all together. I'm looking for a good used luxury 4 door vehicle, such as an Audi A4. I'm 6'3, and I drove a 2012 Cadillac ATS, which was an amazing car, just I don't want my backseat passengers to feel cramped up when sitting behind me. So maybe an A6 would be a better idea. What would you recommend?

I looked at the Audi A6, BMW 535, Lexus IS350, Cadillac STS and the Infiniti G37S.. Having test drove them all, I went with the G37S. Very fast, great gas mileage, cheaper, and looks a lot better(inside and out) IMO..

Drive a bunch of different cars and check it out.. I spend about $300 in gas, but my work is 40 miles away..

Thanks for your response. I'm very picky when it comes to the inside. BMW all look the same, and pretty common around where I live. Mercedez look nice, but the interior to me looks out-dated. I haven't really looked into Lexus, but I like the 250 but was told that's a chick mobile. My buddy has a 2012 Cadillac CTS coupe and that thing is awesome. The Audi is the only luxury car that I have seen that actually seems to care about decent gas mileage.

What year is your G37S? Do you have any photo's of exterior and interior?

ive got a g35 coupe (actually mines branded as a skyline 350gt but its the same car) and i had a 1999 audi s4 before.

i enjoy the sporty edge to my 350, but the interior finish and ride quality of my s4 was far superior, if you can find a well spec'd big audi you wont be disappointed

What's your budget? If you can swing a 2012 BMW 328i, they return excellent gas mileage. I have the 2013 335xi, and I get 35-37mpg on the highway, with high 20's for the city. The 335 is powered by an inline 6 cylinder with a turbo, while the 328i is powered by a 4 cylinder with a turbo. The 328i is actually very quick, despite having a 4 cylinder engine (240 hp/255 tq), and will get better gas mileage than my car. The interior is excellent considering the class, and also the most spacious in its class.

I don't know about Infiniti. My friend never got good gas mileage with his G37. I thoroughly test drove a 2010 G37, and it just got terrible mileage on the test drive - I was also gentle on the throttle since the sales lady came along. Buy a Lexus IS250/350 or ES350 or Acura TL if you want boring but reliable. Audi's have decent interior/exterior, but they are glorified VW's. You might want to check out the Mercedes Benz C (2008+) or E class. Since you are commuting long distances, they are very relaxing interiors, with decent engine power.

I'd love to buy a new car, but I'd rather get a nice used one that will paid off quickly. I just looked at a 2012 Merdecez C250, and the interior looks amazing.

The C250 is nice. If you're comparing the big German three, interior goes to BMW 3/Audi A4 (tie), then C class. Nothing wrong with the C250 but like you said it's dated (still relaxing). The next generation C class comes out in 2014/2015. I had the pleasure of driving a 2013 C300 4Matic for two months, and it was great. The 4Matic system was extremely useful in winter :D

I do like the new look of the BMW's, but I still want a used vehicle instead. I live in a state where winter basically doesn't exist, so cold isn't an issue.

my audi (1999) didn't even have an aux-in so to get one with bluetooth, etc you'll need to take a good few years off

depending on how important mpg is to you have you considered:

For Audi A4, you want 2008+

You should also check out VW Passat. It's built on Audi A4's platform, but it has been stretched to feel like the A6 in size.

VW Passat CC is another fabulous car.

W/e it will be, just make sure you get a fully-loaded car :)

When you are 6,3 no matter what car you get your passengers are always going to be cramped haha! I have the same problem. I was looking at used Aston Martins :D Sod the passengers lol!

Drove a new G37 as a rental pretty much all summer in 2011... was a fantastic car. Fast, souped up v6 sound from the dual exhaust, comfortable, head turner. I almost bought it but Enterprise wouldn't budge on the price.

Infiniti seems to be having an identity crisis though and is phasing the G37 out for the Q50, but both will be offered for the next year or so.

The VW CC is gorgeous, looks like one of the Mercedes models. As for the Passat, I'll look into it, and for driving with passengers, not often at all.

That's what I'm starting to think, and I've been craving a Corvette.

VW CC is a poor man's Mercedes Benz CLS. I had a CLS, and recently traded it in. It was a fantastic car. The problem with both cars is they have limited rear head room (and leg room) due to the fact the roof line is a lot shorter to style it like a coupe. Neither is great for gas (especially CLS), but considering it had a 6.2L v8, it got 24-26mpg on highway. Not the best, but not bad for a 2 ton luxury sedan w/500+ hp.

Get a Corvette. They can be had for cheap, you don't need to worry about rear passengers and they are surprisingly fuel efficient for what they are :D

Q50 is a brand new Infiniti. Since you want a used car, that wouldn't fit your criteria. Maybe a G37, but like I said, they are pretty bad for fuel economy for what they are.

Guess I'm poor because I don't want to spend $32k on a VW.

Corvette's look awesome, I just don't know what year or mileage I should go for? Someone who I work with told me Corvette's are garbage after 25k miles, but I definitely don't believe that. I found one for $27k, it's a 2005 with 19k miles on it.

I know you say that BMW is all the same but they are the same for many of the reasons they are the top of their food chain. The 328i as someone mentioned gets great gas mileage and is not too shabby. A diesel will even have more low end torque and will feel very quick in acceleration. Another car to consider is the Lexus GS350 or the 450 a used one isn't too bad in price and they are a great car, luxury features and solid reliable car.

The CC is a great car as well as the Passat. Don't let the VW thing scare you. In regards to a VW as some people say it's the poor man's CLS. It's more reliable than the CLS by a long shot. Besides I would drive a VW Lamborghini , VW Bentley, VW Audi, VW Posrche and a VW Bugatti. Well I drive one of them already :)

Corvette - no thanks. If not for a ZO6 or the ZR1 it's not worth getting one. Besides he did say LUXURY :) See the insides of them lately? HAHA. I will reserve my comments on the interior in the new Stingray for another day.

Audi A4 - is small. If you were considering that then a used Acura TLS is a heck of a car.

The Infiniti is nice as well but the G35/G37 is not that much bigger than an Audi A4.

good luck.

We've had this discussion here many times before (and I've also talked about it with my friends) - the unanimous consensus is to get a coupe if you drive alone 90%+ of the time.

There's nothing wrong with a sedan, but until you have a family or become rich and can afford the third sports car for the weekends - this is the only time when you can spoil yourself and drive a coupe :)

Have you considered Audi A5?

32585216527.351067314.IM1.02.565x421_A.5

or 3-series coupe. This 335 is a BOMB!

32153811741.349749302.IM1.03.565x421_A.5

Chevy Camaro or Dodge Challenger look awesome too!

I just don't know what year or mileage I should go for?

Pick the most recent one with the least mileage you can afford. As a rule of thumb, you should avoid 100,000+ miles and if you buy a used one with 50,000-75,000 on her - you should be prepared to pay for a thorough maintenance once you buy it. Ideally, when buying a used car, you want to get an after-lease model, this means a two or three year old car (not older) so you are the second driver and if the car had any issues, those would have been fixed under the warranty.

I like coupes, but I also like to be able to get into my backseat for when I put items back there. Maybe an A4 would be nice to have. I'm just not looking to spend more than $15k on a used luxury car, maybe even less.

What don't you like about Corvette's?

Personal opinion on them. I think the cheap build interior is not worth it at any price. The car is not too terribly bad to maintain but there is nothing a regular corvette I find appealing. The Z06 outside of some sticking points on the tranny is all motor and handling and if you are into that then its an acceptable and competent car.

Cheap build quality in the car and there is no denying it. With the new stingray we will see if they have finally learned to use better quality leathers and with acceptable fit and finish. Then again the Ferrari F430 was horrible as well but then again its a Ferrari :) I guess they can use plastics that don't butt up to each other and call it a hand made car :)

the Audi S5/A5 is a very good car. A 335I 4dr or Coupe is another great car for the money. You can pick up a 2010 35-55K mile 335i 4 Dr in the mid 20's.

Before you buy a car, be sure to check the Consumer Reports on it.  Many of the BMWs and VWs tend to have pretty bad ratings for the past few years.  Personally, those are the two brands that I wouldn't ever touch.

I'm partial to Infiniti, so I'd also recommend the G37.  If it wasn't for the $80k in school loans, I would have pulled the trigger on one by now.  Soon!  Beautiful car and fun to drive.  There's also the 350Z and 370Z, but they are very tiny cars.
