12-Year-Old Finds 5.16-Carat Diamond

MURFREESBORO, AR (AP) - A 12-year-old North Carolina boy on vacation with his family has unearthed a 5.16 carat diamond at Arkansas' Crater of Diamonds State Park.

Park officials said Saturday that Michael Dettlaff of Apex, NC, found the honey brown diamond on July 31 after searching for less than 10 minutes. He named it God's Glory Diamond.

Park officials say the diamond is about the size of a jellybean and is the 328th diamond found this year.

More than 75,000 diamonds have been found at the site since the first discovery in 1906 by John Huddleston, the farmer who owned the land at the time.

The largest diamond ever discovered in the United States was unearthed at the site in 1924 and weighed 40.23 carats.

It could had been <sarcasm> in the U.K. and he would be charged local taxes, treasure trove and half the resulting money being shared 50/50 with the land owner.

Then there would had been red tape in bucket full's about was it hidden, whom owned it before etcetera etcetera.

Oh yes, it most certainly does, unfortunately. I take it you haven't seen the embarrassment our state has been recently in the news.

On topic: That's pretty cool though. I need to go find one of those!

Yes. After the Republicans took control of North Carolina for the first time in 140 years, they went crazy!
