Marijuana relieves 6-year-old of epileptic seizures

Recommended Posts

Most parents in the United States try their hardest to keep their kids from using marijuana. But not little Charlotte Figi's mother. The 6-year-old from Colorado has Dravet syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy, which causes debilitating seizures. In the past, her seizures inhibited Charlotte from eating or even getting out of her wheelchair.

After trying just about every possible treatment, Charlotte's family found the only remedy that seems to quell the seizures has been medical marijuana. After a treatment of cannabis oil, Charlotte's seizures were reduced from 300 times a week to about three times a week over an eight-month period.

The program was approved for Charlotte by neurologists and pediatricians. The company that created the cannabis, naming the strain "Charlottes web," is now using the same treatment to help other children. Josh Stanley, the owner of the company, spoke with KDVR in Denver about Charlotte's treatment, saying it has allowed Charlotte to come off all of her pharmaceuticals.

More than 40 children in Colorado are card-carrying medical marijuana users, with the youngest being under a year old. Charlotte's story was featured over the weekend in a CNN documentary called "Weed," which sparked a debate on the use of medical marijuana.

one of the things i hate about this particular news article is people automatically jump to thinking that she is smoking weed. When she is only consuming Drops of Cannabis oil. and it is still truly amazing that it would have these effects but i wish that more people would read through the whole thing before they jumped the gun on it.

I don't have a problem with anything being empirically approved for medical use, I do however have a problem with 1: Stores existing to sell "brands" or  "flavours" of a medicine that is seen as many as having a secondary recreational use. 2: I have a problem with it being smoked, do like we do with other chemicals derived from so called "controlled substances" and put the chemicals into a pill. I don't get why anyone need to smoke "weed" for the medical use put it into a pill or drip.

The government won't care if it's doing any good or not. Marijuana is evil and must die.

Oh give it up. Alcohol is 150% worse for you as are almost every pain pill. So what if it has a recreational use, so do all the schedule 3 narcotics.

Then they should stop selling cough medicine, antidepressants, diazepam derivatives, pain treatments, etc.
