Just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S4 (black)

I don't know the whole list but I D-LInk and other routers are having problems. The SG3 and Iphone 5 have no problems on the router.

I think the solution is to never buy crappy d-link routers.

I spend a lot of time looking at my phone, so it being pleasing to the eye mean a lot to me, and to me Touchwiz looks horrible, I got genuinely annoyed being immersed in the UI. To me it looked so toylike, it especially irritated me that it all looked different, like it was a combination of 10 designers locked in different rooms designing different parts, which no idea what the others were doing.

The only real advantage of staying with Touchwiz is if you use those features they bake in, like the air gestures and other stuff, which I didn't. After putting the GE ROM on, I ended with with a phone with a great camera, a gorgeous screen, and a UI that looked great to me. The GE ROM has no compatibility issues with the camera and stuff like CyanogenMod does.

ok, I never tried it so don't know of the benefits etc... :)

You have no idea what talking about. Its Samsung problem not dlink. Or toss the S4 the crapper.  There are so many better phones then S4.  Its really unfortunate that Samsung can't even test their phones.  Its not just d-link its apparently more routers.  The S4 is not as good as S3 was.

One of my recently discovered free apps that are great and use everyday:

- EZ Weather HD. Great interface with all the info you need. The widgets are really good looking. oW Weather is another one but doesn't have widgets yet.

- File Commander. The best interface I've seen on file managers. Another good one is Sliding Explorer, which is in beta. ES File Explorer is one of my favorites but I'm now using File Commander more and more.

- Falcon Pro (is not listed on Google Play, get it at getfalcon.pro) is a great and now free Twitter client. Plume is my daily driver but is not cheap, though.

- Smoothie Photo Editor. After trying the plethora of photo editors that are available, I've settled with it and purchased the Pro version.

- Textra. It's a really good app for SMS and MMS. I'm having problems with HTC's stock SMS app and Textra is now my main SMS app.

- Converbee is a unit converter. It has a terrific interface and tons of features. Hands down the best for converting currency, units, etc.

Those are one of my recommendations for less known apps, outside of the almost-default apps like FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

About ROMs, I would check if the picture quality and features are the same with stock AOSP ROMs and even 3rd party ones. Normally, this is the first thing one misses when using ROMs.

If you like TouchWiz, keep it. If not, try another ROM. That's how I see it.

Why not just keep it stock? My s3 still runs stock. I'm asking as I genuinely don't know what the appeal or benefit of rooting is.

Well for one, I like messing around with things if I can. Given the "ease" of rooting phones, it's just something that I think, "I have to do this." However, there are also applications that I use that require root access (titanium backup as an example, last time I checked).

With that said though, I didn't realise the air gestures were Touchwiz enabled. Having only just got to grips with them they are still a novelty to me, so I may stick with it for a while unless I can find a custom ROM that includes the same feature.

Most of these require you to be more experienced, But that shouldnt stop you from trying. There are tons of "Android for beginners" articles all over the web.
