Shared Thumbdrives Via *router* (router-brand specific)

Apparently, NETGEAR has seen fit to fix their ReadyShare feature in a recent (in fact first) firmware update for my WNDR3700 v4 - it now allows sharing of USB thumb drives, in addition to external hard drives connected to the router via USB (such as MyBooks).

 

The issue is that I want to share (read-only) access to the drive LAN-wide.  The main PCs are running three different versions of Windows - 8.1 (mine - the admin box/wired), Mom (Windows 7/wired) and Mom's laptop (XP/wireless).  Guest computers (portables in all cases) should be able to read the drive as well (most of these will be wireless).  Except for Mom's laptop, all wireless connections will be wireless-N.

 

Are there any specific "gotchas" regarding ReadyShare and particular versions of Windows?
