The new Mercedes-Benz crossover "SUV" - The GLA-Class

Recommended Posts

Mercedes has expanded a lot with the "lower end" models, and I'm not sure it fits their brand. Either way, I'm sure the AMG boys will fit this with the 45 AMG moniker and give it the AMG treatment. (GLA 45 AMG!)

2014 Mercedes-Benz GLA officially revealed

Orders start in late November, deliveries early next year

Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the 2014 GLA, ahead of the car's public debut scheduled for September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Looking just like we expected, the GLA is a high-riding A-Class with a more muscular body, bigger alloys, roof rails, a dual exhaust arrangement, tailgate-mounted spoiler and an almost identical interior cabin. The compact crossover is 4417mm long, 1804mm wide, 1,494mm tall and has a drag coefficient of 0.29. It has a cargo space of 421 liters with the rear seats up and 836 liters once you fold them down. Interestingly, the German marque is offering an optional Load Compartment package which increases the load area by 60 liters without having to fold the rear seats. This is possible by moving the backrest of the rear seat unit to a steeper position, granting a cargo space of 481 liters with the rear seats up.

Gasoline engines include a 1.6-liter with 156 HP (115 kW) in the GLA 200 and a 2.0-liter with 211 HP (155 kW) in the GLA 250 which has a fuel consumption of 7.1 liters / 100 km (33.1 mpg US or 39.7 mpg UK). On the diesel side, the GLA 200 CDI gets a 2.2-liter delivering 136 HP (100 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) and consumes 4.3 liters / 100 km (54.7 mpg US or 65.6 mpg UK), while the GLA 220 CDI has a 2.2-liter with 170 HP (125 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft).

The GLA 250 equipped with 4MATIC will do 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 6.5 seconds before reaching a top speed of 145 mph (233 km/h). The optional all-wheel drive arrangement is also offered for the GLA 220 CDI and both models benefit from a Downhill Speed Regulation (DSR) system and an off-road transmission mode.

Order books will open in UK at the end of November, with deliveries commencing early next year.

Saw this in AutoExpress yesterday. I wish they'd stop making stupid cars like this.

Why couldn't mercedes just make the A Class a serious ford-focus competitor?

I hate the infotainment screen. It looks like it was plastered on after the whole interior was designed. What were they thinking? It just looks cheap and tacky on this, and the CLA model. Make it flow with the interior Mercedes!
