With the latest news that Google has, yet again blocked a Microsoft YouTube app, I wonder if Microsoft blocked access to Gmail, YouTube from Windows or if you plugged in an Android phone Windows wouldn't recognise it, what Google would do then.  Of course, we shouldn't mention the statement Google made telling users they shouldn't expect privacy with their emails, my respect for Google as a company is rapidly declining.

With all this going on, Apple is once again happy to be quietly developing in the background.

But I feel for Microsoft.  They were late with their OS, but have soldiered on, yes their advertisements aimed at Google's services are just a bit of fun but with a serious message.  Maybe Google's feelings got hurt.

Vote.

i agree, we need to remember these are just very large machines,

However i don't think it'll ever change, people have emotional/feelings for inanimate objects, it's just human nature.

I've voted for Google as number one.

They are like Microsoft from the 80s and 90s, and Apple from the turn of the century.  You don't get to be the top dog by playing nice.

Apple second, as although they are just rehashing old ideas, at least they are sticking to their guns.

Microsoft a low third I'm afraid.  They have lost their way and seem unable to find it.

Neither of aforementioned have left anything worthy that much respect for me to post about. On an unrelated note, Corsair, however...

#1 Microsoft

#2 Apple

#3 Google

The Microsoft Server Team, and the Windows OS (whether or not you like 8's Modern UI) are unmatched in their usefulness and engineering; and are the foundation for modern computing. Only not in the mobile space, hehehe.

Google first for me. I do honestly believe they have reasonably good intentions and I think some of their new ideas / products are pretty awesome or have the potential for greatness (self driving car springs to mind.. amazing).

I use a number of their products on a daily basis - in fact I think I'd be lost without them. So Google gets my #1 spot. Apple gets second because they make products I actually like. Microsoft comes last frankly - I think they've lost the plot horrendously in the last few years and I just get annoyed dealing with their crap these days.

Eh to be honest none of these three would be at the top of my list.

But just with these choices, I'd say Microsoft first, they've been getting their "playing nice with others" act together, not perfect but definitely much improved from what they used to be. Even with the Windows 8 mess they'll bounce back, not the first time somebody published something that was met with shall we say less than enthusiastic reviews.. for example a lot of people hated Vista and then they came back with 7, the best desktop OS to date from any company as far as I'm concerned. That aside they've been doing some pretty slick stuff, one of the very few companies that actually make me want to use their products for so many years.

Apple's kind of in the middle for me. Not my brand of choice but I can understand the loyalty. Curious to see if they can get their momentum back.

Lately Google's been reminding me of Microsoft circa 1995, started nicely but then started the conquest to rule the electronic world.. been churning out some serious dick moves lately, hopefully they get it together soon. For me anyway they don't have anything I actually need that I can't get elsewhere, I like to keep an open mind with my choices but they make it very hard sometimes.

I really don't respect or trust any of them now. They've all played their hand recently and showed what they all are.

Nothing but digital bullies.

I didn't vote because even if I choose Google third it would imply that i have at least some respect for them which is not true. I really respect Microsoft as a company and not just because of their business practices but because no other company encourages students and promotes education worldwide as much as they do. MSDN, Technet, Dreamspark, Hackathons, free tablets, discounted PCs, Office for students you name it. I don't think I've ever heard of Apple donating even one ipad for a good cause. I respect them because they are not afraid to try new ideas (Metro). I respect the people in their team: Ballmer (seriously have you ever seen a more perky CEO, other than Elop maybe who is always smiling), Belfiore, Ben the PC Guy, Major Nelson, Microsoft Research etc. I respect them because they are not patent trolls or greedy or just plain evil. I love their products which are not just toys and allow me to be productive. And last but not the least, I respect Microsoft because it's owned by one of the most respected people in the world who would rather spend his time and money making the world a better place.

I don't really carry any respect for any of them, but if anything, Microsoft would be at the bottom of my list due to what they've pulled with Win8 and the X1.

My vote was

  1. Google
  2. Apple
  3. Microsoft

I based it on innovation. I don't know how else a company can get my respect. I don't work for either of these companies and they certainly don't pay me. So I looked at how much money I spent on these companies in the past 12 months.

Google: Nexus 4 ($300), Nexus 7 ($199), Nexus 7 (2013) ($199 [staples $30 discount]), Nexus Q* (Free but I was willing to spend the $299), Chromecast ($35), Nexus Qi Charger ($49), Samsung Chromebox ($349) and a Samsung Chromebook ($249).

Apple: iPad 4 ($529), Apple TV ($99) and iPod Nano ($129)

Microsoft: Xbox 360 (replacing my broken Xbox 360 bought from day 1 [$199]), Office 2013 Professional Plus (Company Discount [$19.99]), Project Professional 2013 (Company Discount [$9.99]) and Visio Professional (Company Discount [$9.99])

You see, companies have to fight for my money. I am not a cheerleader for any company. In fact, I buy from all of these companies if they have a product or service that is right for me. The proof is in the math. :D

Side note, based on these purchases, where do you think I have spent even more money on? You know stuff like, movies, songs, ebooks, apps, games, etc...? You see, I own primarily Google ecosystem devices. Devices like the Nexus Q and Chromecast brought Google's ecosystem into my living room. Those are hard to narrow down but I assure you quite some money was spent on the Google Playstore.

Out of the three companies I have the most respect for Microsoft. I think because they have been on the top for so long and that they really never had an effort to really make their products great that a lot of people don't want to give them a chance. For me over the years their OS has been rock solid. I know there are a few bad ones like ME and Vista and when their OSs came out they need some polishing, but lately their OS is great and is well polished out the door. I feel Windows 8 took a step forward with all of the newer stuff added. Support for new devices, SSDs, UEFI, and so on. A lot of people do not like the Modern apps and start and I am not really sure why when you can just stay in the desktop. Sure some people are reporting their OS has got a blue screen or locked up but I can't remember the last time I had either. My PC just doesn't crash. I run two SSD's in raid and if there is a storm and the power goes out my OS comes right back up. No lost boot files or bad files. Think about it. It is way better then what it use to be and has been since XP SP2 to Windows 7.

Most people forget about the good things. They are getting updates out faster, supposedly thinking about our privacy, security has gotten better, their anti-virus software is great, they spend their own money to shut down spam and other bot servers. Bill Gates spends a lot of his money to help others in the world. The list of good things goes on.

I love their phones and how simple they are. I do not have to fuss with settings and other tweaks. The phone is integrate with everything and once you log in to your accounts it is good to go. Nice solid phone. I can remember all of the problems I had with Windows Mobile Phone and Android and I do not miss the problems or trying to find a ROM.

They are doing a better job integrating their hardware. Everything they are doing brings value to me. I use their devices and services. No more stupid jump drives. Everything is in the cloud. I do not need to fuss with installing office on a PC that does not have it to open a document. I can open the office documents in the browser.

I have not personally used a Mac, OSX, or iPhone but I am not na

google has gone evil. they don't respect their users privacy. Apple is dead in the water without Steve Jobs... but atleast  all their doing is getting you to voluntarily buy over priced hardware. Microsoft went from the evil corporation a decade ago to probably one of the most respectable in the tech industry. Regarding  what's going on with google blocking an awesome youtube app on windows phone  I just think Microsoft should release a feature in the IE11 that blocks google's ads. no ads = no money. Google will disappear fairly quickly.

I voted for Microsoft. They are the ones that now have the most inovation, and at least, they are not afraid to try something completely different. And I've never seen any other company that spend so much mony to help people in every part of the world. Their Microsoft Research division does also great stuff.

FOSS, not because I think the software is necessarily better, but because it's the ethical alternative.
