TNT has renewed their top performing drama series Rizzoli & Isles, Major Crimes and Perception. Rizzoli & Isles will return for a fifth season, while Major Crimes and Perception will return for their third seasons. All three have received 15 episode orders and join fellow summer series Falling Skies which was also recently renewed for next season, although with a 12 episode order.

?TNT has had a terrific summer with four big hits that have drawn viewers with great storytelling, engaging characters and outstanding performances,? said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). ?With the renewals of Rizzoli & Isles, Major Crimes, Falling Skies and Perception, TNT has built an incredibly strong arsenal of scripted series. And it?s only going to get stronger with the addition of Mob City and the return of Dallas this winter, not to mention the debuts of The Last Ship and Legends next summer.?

The renewal of all three had been expected given their ratings performance. Rizzoli & Isles currently ranks as basic cable?s #1 series for the summer-to-date and has been averaging 8.4 million viewers in Live + 7, an increase of +6% over last season. The Closer spin-off Major Crimes ranks as one of basic cable?s Top 5 series and has been averaging more than 6.7 million viewers in Live + 7. While Perception has been averaging 5.6 million viewers in Live+7.

Officially, the network has yet to make a decision on the fates of either Franklin & Bash or new entry King & Maxwell. But I hear that while the Sony Pictures Television produced Franklin & Bash is unlikely to return, things are not quite as bleak for the CBS Television Studios produced King & Maxwell. The series launched to 3.52 million viewers in early June and subsequently saw a dip in the ratings but was able to regain viewers by the end of its run, with the season finale averaging 3.5 million viewers. I hear that TNT is leaning towards renewal, but may air the series outside of Summer.

As a person sick of "reality" shows, this is evidence that thoughtful storytelling can still be successful. The wife very much enjoys Major Crimes & Rizzoli. We've yet to check out Perception.
