So I'm not that great with hardware, so I wanted to know if this would all work or not. I have three computers, the basics of which are: DESKTOP:
MOTHERBOARD: Asus P5Q-E P45 Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard
PROCESSOR: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB)
RAM: Corsair - TWIN2X4096-6400C5 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) PC2-6400 DDRII HTPC:
MOTHERBOARD: Asus 1156 P7H55-M Pro
PROCESSOR: Intel Core i3 530 2.93GHz Socket 1156 4MB L3 Retail Boxed Processor
RAM: Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz i5 Memory Kit CL9 1.5V NEW PC:
MOTHERBOARD: Shuttle SZ68R5 XPC Barebone System (Socket 1155, 4x DDR3 1333MHz)
PROCESSOR: Intel Core I5-3570 Processor (3.40GHZ, 6MB Cache, Socket 1155)
Due to circumstances beyond my control I am having to replace the HTPC motherboard. However because of the requirements and age of the board, it's not sold any more. QUESTION 1:
I was going to steal the RAM from the HTPC and stick it in the New PC. I guess that will work okay? The board takes DDR3, 1333Mhz so I assume it'll be okay.
I was then going to put the motherboard/processor from the Desktop PC in the HTPC. However this means I would have to get a graphics card as the processor would be a downgrade. QUESTION 2:
Will that processor be okay for playing 1080p movies (resolution of the PC isn't 1920, it's lower)? I will be getting a cheap (~£30) 1Gb video card.
However, I have found somewhere that I might be able to pick up a replacement motherboard for the HTPC. In which case, I will need some more RAM.QUESTION 3:
Why is RAM so expensive these days? I got the HTPC 4Gb of RAM for £25, yet when I look around I see prices at about £60 (although that is for 8Gb I think). It doesn't have to be branded, I just want some cheap ram that will work fine in the New PC so I can return the original ram to the HTPC. However it needs to be a little on the low profile side because the New PC doesn't have room for the new fan-dangled heat sink types.
Thanks for the helpies
