Infected File? Windows 8 Pro 64bit

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Scanning with Avast 2014 beta 1 public beta, reported to Avast on feedback page and forum, updated to latest definitions released today--still showing the following file infected

C:\Windows\System32\Config\System

Any advice?  or removal instructions

Do I have to do a full Windows 8 Reformat or Reset?

is it a false positive?

That is a bad false positive to have I feel right?

You are using a public beta version. Sometimes any beta of security programs can show issues like yours.

If you are certain that your computer is not infected, it's a false positive. If you want to be sure, install a trial from another company and scan your hard drive.

Chances are it's just a false positive.

Suggestion is to scan your system with the 3 following programs

SuperAntispyware - Can be downloaded from Ninite.com

Malwarebytes - Can be downloaded from Ninite.com

Hitman Pro** - Can be downloaded from http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/

**Hitman Pro has a 30 day free trial you can activate.

If you have an issue one of these 3 should tell you. If all 3 show you clean then I would consider your message from Avast as a false positive.

1 question... why are you using a beta av? are you using a production system or a test system?imo i would stay away from these beta security things as they aren't ready for general use. Running one or more of TechGuyPA's suggested tools should tell you if avast is reporting a false positive. imo it looks like a false positive, but check it, just to be sure.

Because I wanted to help Avast make a good program for Windows 8 and 8.1, this is a Production, every day use System, I guess I should've left non beta Avast in or kept using Windows Defender in Windows 8 Pro 64bit

My normal use consists of

Streaming music

using virtual dj program to dj in secondlfie at times

(youtube megatube to get songs now-NO torrents)

surfing the web

gaming in both metro and Desktop

Decided to try out beta Avast since to help them make it perfect for Windows 8 pro and 8.1 pro, and maybe switch full time to Avast when 8.1 came out and I did my clean install.

I guess I might've made a not smart decision

Malwarebytes-Clean

Eset Online-scan o infections detected

Hitman Pro--O infections detected

Superantispyware 0 detected

So have to say it does appear to be totally false
