Well the Surface Pro should be good but obviously not for gaming and if the screen size is not a problem. The Yoga is pretty good too I hear but so is the Thinkpad Tablet 2 (if you don't have a Windows requirement).
For normal laptops i'd say getting a Lenovo Thinkpad T430/440 (or X2xx for something smaller) is good for the regular abuse of a college life. I started with my first one then and have been buying them since. Recently got a T42 for my GFs dad and he loves it and that thing is like 10yrs old.
(No I don't work for Lenovo besides what my signature or Avatar says )
Since you didn't give a price range (and skipping the other options you've mentioned), The Sony VAIO Pro is pretty sweet little machine. The Samsung Attiv books too look good for what they have as well.
So yeah, just saying there are plenty of nice options out there these days when it comes to form factors and costs. Narrow that down and you'll be in a better spot to pick something
