iPhone 5C will reportedly replace iPhone 5 and cost $400-$500

Recommended Posts

The budget phones are usually not associated with contracts. At least talking about this part of the planet, contracts are generally avoided (and especially in the lower range) and most people buy their phones unlocked. So the $400-500 price tag is insane, especially if they're aiming to get a foothold in the developing countries.

If it's replacing the iPhone 5 like it says in the article, that also affects countries that primarily use post paid plans (contracts/subsidy)...

That's where I get confused. If they're aiming for the current market, then they're basically creating competition for themselves. And if they're aiming for developing countries, they've priced it way too high, plus developing for it is near impossible in poor-er countries. I really fail to see a market for this.

From the leaks ive seen, especially the gold colored one it should be called Iphone 5 Chav edition :d

(this coming from an iphone owner lol)

Apple doesn't do cheap products, never have never will so I wish the whole "it has to be cheap thing" would stop.  They needed a cheaper iPad, out comes the mini and thats an Apple budget alternative.  Thats in their brand line not in comparison to anyone else.  Apple isn't the only high end brand that doesn't cater for the race to the bottom markets.  Many exist in different markets so why can't there be one in the mobile phone eco sphere?

Half the thing about price is perceived value.  How come pop corn in a cinema costs so bloomin much etc etc.

I will concede that to most tech savvy people the iPhone does need a jolt but does it really need a bigger screen, dual core etc.  It's hard to play a numbers game with a phone that doesnt release much in the way of hard tech facts*  Does the iPhone need an octa core to be a better phone or isn't it just better for developers to write highly optimised apps?

This new CEO is a real bonehead! 1st he slaps the most loyal apple customers in the face when he changed the charging port on the latest phone forcing loyal apple customers to choose between replacing/buying ALL new adopters/devices that were all compatible to the old ports... Devices like home entertainment centers, chargers, movie playing devices, etc... or going with another maker... Now he's following that up with what I believe will be the sinker, with an ridiculously expensive phone!

anyway why would you buy a phone that spies on you 24.7 brainless.

Ok so at what point would you have gotten rid of an aging connector that takes up more space than needed. Would there ever be a good time for that?  Nope so they do what apple do and drive forward.  They were around the first to get rid of the flopping drive, cd etc and that's not done them any real harm.  There are converters you can purchase off ebay for ?2 to got from old 30 to new connectors.

The iPhone isn't the only phone to spy on users 24/7 now is it, just that it got more press.  Samsung are caught cheating on benchmarking and that goes without much uproar.  Horses for courses each have their ups and downs.

Im confused about the plastic phone strategy and I'm more worried about if it's a reactionary move again by Apple like perhaps the iPad mini was.  I don't buy into (pardon the pun) the 5c monkier.

But at least we might get fingerprint recognition like the ones I have at work ;-)

"BGR..."

You said exactly what I was thinking. BGR have just been posting clickbait articles lately with no actual sources, they posted an article recently saying that an iOS 7 beta was due out the following week (citing it as an exclusive no less), when it turned up later that same afternoon.

This has got to the point that /r/apple are attempting to ban BGR links from the sub all together.

I would take this with a pinch of salt. Actually less than that.

(Y)  I think Neowin should look into doing the same...

If true, that's bad. This shouldn't replace the iPhone 5, it should be sold in conjunction. They should sell: iPhone 5C (low end), 5 (middle), 5s (top of the line)

This is what I'm expecting they'll do.. I guess we have to wait and see what September brings!

When it comes to Apple, the rumor mills have been wrong many more times than they have been right. I will wait and see what Apple does and then go from there.
