Will Xbox One games be available to buy via marketplace on day one?

Recommended Posts

As per thread title, will Xbox One games be available to purchase on their release dates from the Xbox Marketplace?

Some people seem to think they'll be available day one, while others I've spoken to seem to think it'll be like the current marketplace on the 360, where games will become available to download about 4-6 months after release.

I'm asking because I'm not sure if I will need to pre-order games along with my One, as I would prefer to go completely digital and just download them when I get the One on release.

Well all of the official reports from MS say that all games will be day one digital downloads.

I haven't seen any rumors or official statements that would say that is incorrect.  Maybe someone else can chime in if that is true.

I didn't think people actually did this? Last time i checked, games were very expensive compared to stores and webshops? Perhaps this has changed?

Convenience and digital downloads will eventually offer all the benefits that as originally promised for the Xbox one.

Well in reference to the Games on Demand feature on the 360, people complained about pricing because games being posted were older games which you could find cheaper elsewhere.

With the X1, we are talking about day one digital releases.  That means that the price will be the same as it would be if you bought it day one anywhere else.  So if your the kind of person use to paying $50 or $60 to get a game day one, then getting it day one digitally will cost the same.

I would assume so.  I don't see them saying "Well.. you bought the console.. so.. go buy the phyiscal game".   I know this is an MS thread, but personally am hoping the same is true for Sony.  I don't mind having to go to the store to buy the game, but would be nice if the PSN had the games up for download when I get my PS4 all hooked up and ready to go.

I dont play many games but for the ones I'll have to pay full retail anyway (launch day or at least first week), Ill download the digital version just for the sake of not having to switch out discs.  Call of Duty, Madden and prob a few others will be digital for me.  Would be nice for a $5 or $10 discount on them though, I mean cut out the retailer's cut and give some back to the gamers.

I have tried to find official word from Sony, but I haven't found it yet.  I have seen them say that they will have day one releases, but not whether that means all games like the X1 or only some games like the PS3 offers.

I'd say its likely both consoles will offer day one releases for all titles, but we will see.

Both consoles will have day one digital downloads.

probably

only MS has confirmed that all games will be available as digital downloads on release day though. chances are if Sony was doing the same, they would have announced it, they've announced everything else. Most likely they just never expected this and are working quite hard to get the deals for the same thing in place by release.
