WTF is up with youtube?

Recommended Posts

I go to watch a video, it stops about 5 seconds in the video, so i go to reload the page and the video plays at 144p or 240p, i change to 720 HD and the video stops loading, and eventually goes back to 144p. i was recently over at dailymotion because it had a better design and video play back was faster , but dailymotion seems dead, my guess because of the yahoo deal that didn't work out, kinda made the site dead. So i went back to using youtube and their crappy one channel design  , lets face it Yt is the only site that is really popular, but what is up with the stupid video playback?

Do i have to go back to using a old flash version or something. this is really annoying.

The bottom of the bar on the flash video does not pop up when I rollover all the time. Don't know why it doing it. Sometime it stop playing after 90% of the video is finish.

If you are at hotel or one of the restaurants/bars,  then it could be the problem because there are too many people are connecting to the hotspot wifi.

If you are at home or at one of your friends, then it is your PC ... make sure to update your flash, graphic card driver, etc.

Your isp could be throttling YouTube. If other video sites worry k that could be why.

Have had such problems with (what I think may have been the cause) unpopular (not much views or likes) videos.

I remember reading that Youtube's CDNs show a preferential treatment for more popular stuff when under heavy load.

Edit: perhaps I fixed it somehow in between, but basically I threw up papers in the air and waited it out.

Mine has been stopping too...I'll be into a video, and it'll just stop playing, or freeze, forcing me to either run the video backwards using the slider bar near the play button area at the bottom of the video, or forcing me to refresh the page. VERY annoying, and it just started a few days ago. (Latest stable Chrome, which is updating now, hopefully fixes it...Windows 7 64-Bit, 4GB Ram, C2D)

I get a similar problem with Firefox + Flash on HD videos. Firefox just can't handle HD videos for some reason. IE11 works just fine. (Windows 8 at work and Windows 8.1 at home).

It started for me a while back. Not sure if it was a Firefox or Flash player update. It keeps switching quality and the video jumps as a result unless I set a resolution at the start. Might be worth dropping back to an earlier Flash player (maybe 11.6 or earlier).

if your location doesn't match where you are, your ISP probably can't match you to the closest CDN (Content delivery network) that has an interconnect point with them... when this happens you get slow responses, harder to stream high bandwidth items... I've seen this a lot on Comcast when it thinks you are somewhere you aren't... has nothing to do with ISP throttleing usually, it's usually a bad peering point or CDN problem

 I'm at home, using seamonkey, q6600 550 4gb ddr2 memory and win7 64.

I'm just going to deal with it, the problem seems to be with youtube , ever since google took over the site has gone to crap anyway. , so i will just watch videos in 480 and 720 when i can.

I'm not going back to daily motion because like i mention the site seem to have went dead within the past 2 months, even tho they do have the best quality and play back and design.

If you are at home in Las Vegas, then you should update your location under your display picture... which is why the users thought you live in Beverly Hills.

Why don't you try Firefox, IE, Safari.. and see if the videos work well for you... if so, you can use one of those browsers for videos ... and you can use Seamonkey for everything else.

you can be "at home" but your ISP can report you somewhere else... which is a problem for geocoded CDN's because it tries to pick the closest one to you and can pick the wrong one if your ISP has it's routing / DNS / geo database wrong
