Q: Why does hardware label on Asus laptop differ with actual system model?

I have Asus M70Vm laptop. I was looking for drivers and didn't find any laptop on Asus website. Windows 7 Ultimate.

What i did?

1. First i looked at back side of laptop model: There is a label and on it a model: Asus X72VM-7S030C.I found nothing on Asus website or searching for X72V or X72VM, there were just auctions on ebay.

2. I typed msinfo32 and there was actual model: N70VM and this model was listed on Asus website with all necessary support.

Thanks

I remember when I worked in retail that some companies released the same model under different model numbers to different retailers to make it more difficult to price match.  I don't know if that still happens.

The X models are vendor specific models of the regular K/N/G whatever Asus models. The X models are usually not listed on the site. If you still have the box for it you'll see the X model but another place it'll also list the base model.
