BoomyBoy
Hey everybody, two days ago, all in a sudden, my hotmail account started getting flooded by e-mail spams. I get over 50-100 e-mail spams in my inbox and hotmail doesn't filter them at all... What can be the reason?
jakem1
You probably gave your email address to a dodgy website. Just use the cleanup options to remove the spam.

The Evil Overlord
I'm waiting for more info on this too, inbox is set to exclusive, so all mail, (unless specified as a safe sender) goes straight to junk folder I've even tried resetting the mail to default, logging out, then going back in, to set it up the way I like it. OP, are you using the web version of hotmail, or WLMail (I'm only asking as I use WLMail, hadn't used the web version in years, until I had to go into yesterday to change the settings)
BoomyBoy
It's really bugging me these days! I'm using web version of it. The weird stuff is hotmail keeps saying that those e-mail spam senders are in my contact lists which are not at all...
The Evil Overlord
Yup, looks like we have to wait for them to get off their ass and fix whatever it is they've broken Back in the '90's you used to be able to email then to report faults like these, I know I used to email them it used to be support@hotmail.com I don't think it works anymore, as I tried it yesterday and got a failiure report
BoomyBoy
It's so annoying! I woke up this morning and there were 30 e-mail spams in my inbox!! It was my main e-mail account. I had to get a new one... It's ridiculous
jakem1
How can I do that? There are a number of options under the Sweep menu at the top of the page in Outlook.com. Try those. By the way, I've never had this problem with Hotmail and I've been using it for more than a decade so I doubt it's a bug at Microsoft's end. PGHammer
This is a bug i've noticed with hotmail for years. Suddenly their spam filter service will break, and it'll get flooded by spam. Lasts a few hours to a few days and then its back to good. No idea what causes it, but it happens every once in a while. Especially annoying if you have email alerts on computer, phone and any other device, which keep popping up. Hasn't bugged out on me lately though so maybe its localized to only some accounts/servers at a time. I've actually asked about that here too, and written about it elsewhere in the past. It is for precisely this reason that I migrated my Hotmail account to Outlook.com - MUCH better spam filtering. (Since I was already using Outlook 2010 x64 as my mail client (even with Hotmail), I had zero client migration issues.) Here's the surprise for would-be Hotmail migrators - the migration does NOT require you to change anything but your e-mail address. While my e-mail address changed, my password - and e-mail server settings - didn't. (I use the SAME mail server I did with Hotmail - m.hotmail.com.) Therefore, it sounds more like a service-related issue (since Hotmail and Outlook.com use not merely similar mail servers, but the SAME mail servers). Well, I tried everything and it's still coming in my inbox... Hotmail thinks that those spam senders are my contacts so it must be a bug
