Windows Classic theme... sort of

Recommended Posts

I guess most of you have tried installing 3rd party themes only to get your theme engine broken. Is there a way to get a classic theme that mimics the broken theme engine look without actually breaking it? You know the one - sorta looks like Windows Classic, except it has nicer colors and fonts look bigger. That's how it looks on XP, but the Windows Vista/7 one is similar:

Create that theme the broken way, then save it as a new theme?

There's a few "classic" themes out there, seen a few on DeviantArt and elsewhere.  For example, here's one for 7.

And one for 8.

The 7 version still has the DWM effects with it, it's not a basic theme, just looks like one.

You could actually do this yourself if you are so inclined.

IIRC, Windows Vista and Windows 7 revert to a similar theme if you are using Windows Aero and disable the Themes Service. Afterward, you could take note of those settings and apply them manually, then save the theme.

I'd do it for you but I'm on Windows 8 at the moment. . .
