Unable to change Windows 8 language

Recommended Posts

Hi all

so I want to change my Windows 8 Pro from Dutch to English.

I follow the regular steps to do so: by going to the control panel and clicking on the provided link (see screenshot below)

Source: eightforums (no, I didn't ask my question there as well, I just googled it)

Next, the update screen appears (or sometimes not) like this

It appears the language pack (KB2607607) is already downloaded to my computer as the installation status states that the installation is in progress (the picture above shows that a download is in progress first before the installation).

However, the installation fails every time. No details to be found, apart from 'some updates failed', "Engels (Verenigd Koninkrijk) taalpakket - Windows 8 voor x64-systemen - (KB2607607) [en-GB_LP]"

Any help on this issue?

Thanks :)

Hi,

If the language pack has already been download, you could try the following:

1. Open the charm Zoeken and search for ''lpksetup''. Click on the result.

2. Click on Weergavetalen installeren

3. Click on Bladeren.

4. Navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

5. You will see several folders. One of these folders contains the file Windows8-KB2607607-x64-ENG (in my case it was in folder 98e716f06531481852a1965dd9fdf154, but this could be different on your computer). Select the file. You should see the language on your screen.

6. Click on Volgende.

7. Select Ik ga akkoord met de licentievoorwaarden and click on Volgende.

8. The language pack will now be installed. This could take a while.

When the installation is complete, you can return to Klok, taal en land/regio --> Taal in the Control Panel and set English as your display language.

Thanks for your help.

So I followed your steps, but couldn't find the exact KB file. But I got it directly from Microsoft: http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/software/updt/2012/10/windows8-kb2607607-x64-eng_5359d31b8f4e3de3fa91b4e45a2307ece82365b6.cab

(in case anyone has the same problem and reads this, the x84 file can be found here: http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/software/updt/2012/10/windows8-kb2607607-x86-eng_f0fa22663a5adcb24c36907c4252d8948241c53c.cab )

Unfortunately, the update is failing again..

So as illustrated in your last picture, the language pack is 'installing'. But after a few minutes, I got the following screen:

I cleaned up Windows Update using the 'disk cleanup tool', but still no luck.

Any other possible solutions?

  • 2 weeks later...

It appears that I can't install updates as well. After restarting the computer - as requested by Windows - the updates are still there and are reported as 'failed'

I have run the WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab and it stated that some issues were resolved, but I can't seem to be able to change the language or update my system at all right now.

Any possible solutions would be very welcome. Thanks!

If i reading what you posted above correctly, you have downloaded the language packs? If so try this...

Open command prompt with administrative privileges.

dism /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\downloads\*or where ever you downloaded to*\windows8-kb2607607-x64-eng_5359d31b8f4e3de3fa91b4e45a2307ece82365b6.cab  (assuming that name of file)

Reboot computer / laptop

When back up, change the display language via control panel to english, or whatever your chosen language is.

It sounds to me like you have some breakage in your servicing setup. Experience tells me you're probably going to need a clean install
