cacoe
So... I decided to try out storage spaces in Windows 8, not realizing that all of my data would be deleted (two disks formatted) when doing so. Poo. Anyway, I think I can recover the whole thing with Active@ Partition Recovery, it has found the lost partition and as far as I can see, all of the content is still there (It's currently not mounted at all, it's just a RAW disk, which is just as well so nothing can get written to it.) Unfortunately, the GPT is damaged so as far as I can see, to recover it, I need another hard drive of the same capacity as my existing one to transfer the files without actually recoving the partition exactly as it was. Can anyone offer an insight as to where I may find a 1tb hard drive as cheap as possible please? Prefferably an internal one. It doesn't even have to be any good! It doesn't even have to last more than a day before breaking (though it would be a bonus if it didn't..) I'd prefer to get a new one, I really don't like the idea of ever buying used HDDs. Advice please? Thanks, Mark.

cacoe
Drive to the closest computer hardware store or office supply store and buy one? I said cheap! I don't know of a single physical shop where I could get a hard drive cheaper than I could on the internet. BTW, should have mentioned UK.
The Rev
Why do people post on here asking someone to do all the work finding something they can google themselves? Dude, your time is not that valuable... You can find the cheapest effing hard drive in all of the UK in less than a half hour. Do it yourself. Andre S. Veteran Posted August 28, 2013 Veteran Share Posted August 28, 2013 That always depend on what current items are on sale and no one has perfect constant of knowledge of that. The only way to know is to check by yourself on various sites that gather prices around the internet and double-check at popular stores like newegg.com and others. Why ask others to do it for you? goretsky 1 Share
goretsky Supervisor Posted August 28, 2013 Supervisor Share Posted August 28, 2013 Hello, I have had good results buying hard disk drives from NewEgg. They are usually one of the more inexpensive vendors. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
The Evil Overlord
Used hard drives aren't as bad as you'd think, I've bought a used SSD (using it right now in this machine) I've bought used hard drives in the past with no problems, there's no right way or wrong way to go about it, and I do understand your fear of buying used, as it may already be starting to fail etc... But the gamble is, you could get a virtually new hard drive for a pittance

+BudMan MVC Posted August 28, 2013 MVC Share Posted August 28, 2013 Why don't you just go to the store, buy the drive - recover your data if you can.. Put your data back and return the drive? Or why not just borrow one from a buddy? Your going to wait days while something gets shipped to you to try and recover your data?

REM2000
if you need to buy one urgently on the high street buy an external one and then pop it out it's enclosure. I know it's odd but in the UK all the external drives on the high street are cheaper than internal :s edit: sorry should have added PCworld/Argos etc.. for the stores, if you can wait order it online. Biohead
Have a look on hotukdeals... with the right search you should find one cheaply and quickly (and maybe even locally!). Although seriously take note of what someone said - buy an external and crack it open. It's actually cheaper. You can generally get 1TB 2.5" externals around ?50 now if you look hard, so I'd expect 3.5" to be even less.
