Keyboard and SSD died at the same time

Recommended Posts

I went to turn on my computer this morning, and it hung at boot. I rebooted, went to BIOS, and found my SSD was no longer being detected. Pulled it out, tried it in another computer, nothing. I then went to restart my desktop again with a Linux USB drive, and this time the mechanical keyboard wouldn't work (no lights, couldn't get into BIOS, etc). Tried it on two other computers, and it was dead on both of them. Checked the USB cable itself, and it works. Plugged a different keyboard into the same USB slot, and it worked fine.

Everything else on the computer seems to be working fine, it's currently running on an old harddrive with Linux, but what I'm wondering is if this is just a stroke of really bad luck, or if there's something else I should be checking at this point.

Any storms in the area ?  any pets messing around with cables ?  You mention you have spike protection - what exactly do you have in place ?
