The Google Music app is awesome. You can upload up to 20,000 songs to the cloud and access it anywhere online using the google music app. You can simply be work and go to google music on the web and listen to your whole library on the cloud :)

However , I would like to say if you didn't make use of live tiles , then you probably were doing it wrong. And I feel that apps in WP, even the unofficial ones , are much more superior in quality when compared to official ones in other platforms.
Anyways , if I didn't love WP and Nokia so much , I too would have gone for Nexus 4 , pretty safe and solid device to have in the android world :)

Customize everything you possibly can. This is what Android is all about. No need for boring squares with no background and basic colors when you can have animated wallpaper, glossy icons and krazy widgetz!

Utilize all 4 cores. If you don't, you're better off with an iPhone.

Purchase an extra battery. Power users use power.

Choose wisely: 700,000 high risk apps are waiting for you in the Play Store.

Again, watch out for malware!

Spend plenty of time researching Android as you tinker with it. You will develop a mutual relationship with your phone as it controls you as much as you control it.

Keep your Windows Phone around in case you screw up your Android while tinkering with it.

This 700,000 figure seems to be a favorite for Trend Micro.  However, nowhere does it say 700k baddies are waiting on the Play Store...

I recommend trying new launchers. A launcher is like a new homescreen, a UI replacement basically. Some launchers to try are Nova Launcher and Smart Launcher. I love Smart Launcher.

I use Nova Launcher and love it. It helps extend my battery life by several hours. I heartily recommend everyone trying out new launchers.

Using Chameleon Launcher on my phone and Android tablet... but I kind of grew a fondness of tiles from my work phone. Convenient if you're into that sort of thing (and don't like widgets) but it's not lightweight.

ES File explorer, nothing quite like it for accessing my NAS content and streaming movies, music and photos to all my `droid devices. Think of it like Windows explorer but with media playing abilities built in.

InSSIDer is also very handy for checking wifi channels and ensuring no overlapping channels from neighbours.

Battlelog (if your a BF3 player)

Sophos Mobile protection (Android AV and mobile finder if lost)

Google Sky Map

Dolphin Browser

XBMC Android port (Xbox Media Center)

Great app.  Another feature is you can add cloud storage accounts there as well.  I have SkyDrive, Drive, and Dropbox  setup via ES File Explorer.  No need to have a separate app installed for each.

I find the stock ROM of my Nexus4 to be perfectly fine. 

 

Nothing wrong with flashing something else, but I don't think it's a must on this device.

 

You can keep the stock ROM and still root the phone to add more functionality to the device.  Root doesnt over right the stock rom and unrooting will make it like it was out of box.

This is an out and out lie.  That report was based on counterfeit versions of legitimate apps found OUTSIDE of the Play store.

 

Stick to the Play store and everything's fine.

For the OP if you have a Nexus 4 I am probably the only person who would say you shouldnt root/custom rom. I made the switch from WindowsPhone (nokia 920) to htc one about 2.5 months ago. The only gripe I have is the updates. With a nexus you get updates straight from google when they release, I would kill for that even tho I purchased a unlocked HTC One Im still tied to AT&T for updates. If I want to give my phone something different I just use Nova launcher to change the look. Since I did that I dont feel the need to load a custom rom. If I get the new Nexus I'll probably load a launcher and forget rooting.

If you don't want Sense, you can convert your HTC One into a Google Play edition, and you'll get your updates much faster. A launcher doesn't do any justice - all you're doing is masking it. You still have Sense processes in the background...Personally I like Sense, and haven't found a reason to root/ROM the ATT HTC One.

btw, I saw that some people has some amazing backgrounds with "motion", how Android handle that? should I download an app to download those or any source I can go and download directly?

I love smart phones and I want one, but Verizon is killing me.  $30 more for a data plan that I simply don't want.  I just want WiFi.

 

So while all you guys complain about smartphones, be gentle to us that don't have Smartphones.  It's just too expensive for my tastes.

 

I have a regular non smart phone that has a slide-out keyboard and it's made by "Samsung" and I have static apps (non upgradable),

but I can't install beyond what they have on the phone.

 

I personally think some of you guys are spoiled.

Heh, I made the reverse choice that the OP did, switching from Android (Galaxy S3) to WP (Nokia Lumia 925). Happy so far.

Either way, best rom I can suggest for Android is CyanogenMod. That's just me though. You should also keep an eye on Ubuntu Touch.

 

That's exactly what my gf did and what I'm planning to do too (she switched her S3 to Lumia 925, I'll do the same with my Galaxy Note 1). No matter which OS you use, you'll end up wanting something new or different. Well, at least I do, but what do I know - I'm a nerd. :rofl:  

 

That being said, you really can't go much wrong with Android. It has all the apps you need, it's a pretty mature OS etc.  Like someone said before, XDA is your friend. Another good place for hints and tips is Modaco. There are loads and loads of different roms (at XDA) to choose from (I liked Paranoidandroid  very much, but always ended up coming back to the stock rom, but it's fun as long as you don't brick your phone and turn it into  an expensive paperweight). :)

 

Must apps (a few of them) that I have on my Note are:  Whatsapp, Spotify, Netflix, OneNote, SkyDrive, CallerInfo, Sports Tracker, Flipboard & Zite, Swype&Swiftkey (can't make up my mind which one is better, both are better than Note's stock kb which is r-e-a-l-l-y laggy...but I'm sure that you won't have that problem as your phone has better hw...Even though  it's a bit funny how a 1,4 GHz dual-core cpu can't cope  with the stock keyboard properly....I guess It's a h-e-a-v-y OS = it's like a train equipped with Porsche 911's engine...but now they've moved on to using jet engines, so no more troubles there).  :shifty:

Incidentally, American cellphone contracts suck. They bleed you buggers dry and you LET them.  We've never tolerate crap like charging you to receive calls or texts over here...

Those are called Live Wallpapers. There's loads of them on the Play store, many of them free.

 

They suck battery though.
