Man kills boyhood friend over stolen video-game system

BUSTLETON, PA -- "You know it's beyond  comprehension."

That's how veteran homicide detectives described the murder of 19 year old Daquan Crump after they discovered that his 19 year old boyhood friend had allegedly killed Crump over a stolen Playstation 3 console.

"He got killed over a $60 Playstation set," said Homicide Unit Captain James Clark at a mid-day press conference.

Teenager Malik Anderson now stands charged with murder. Detectives say Crump stole a used Playstation 3 console from another friend that he and Anderson had planned to steal together. That's when detectives say Anderson lured Crump to this demolition site and executed him.

"He pulled out a gun, shot him once in the back of the head. The decedent didn't know what hit him. He went down. And like I said, [Malik] stood over top of him and fired nine more times," Clark explained.

Clark says homicide detectives went to Anderson's Tomlinson Road home Wednesday morning with a SWAT team and arrested him without incident. They also found the .22 caliber murder weapon.

"Actually it was inside his refrigerator,  so we have the murder weapon," Clark added.

Detectives say Crump's murder is not only sad and tragic, but the betrayal between two friends should make young kids think twice.

"Be very careful how you choose your friends," Clark advised.

Clark also says Anderson is cooperating with investigators and has confessed to the killing.

"In their mind, this is worth a human life. Because I didn't get a cut of a $60 dollar profit from a used Playstation game, I'm gonna stand over top and shoot a kid I've been friend with since I was 10, 11 years old..." said Clark.

Anderson is still talking to detectives this evening at the homicide unit. He will be arraigned on the murder charges sometime tonight.

Crump's family declined to comment on the arrest today when we went to his mother and grandmother's home.

So this guy and his friend stole a PS3 and one of the friends got shot because why...?  Didn't want to split PS3 50/50 or what?  Are the detectives sure that there isn't $200,000 worth of drugs inside the PS3?

I mean anyone can tell you you're not going to get or pay $60 for a used game, or pay $60 for a used console.  so...this quote was either not very well thought through or the article itself is misleading

Well, I suspect that detective is just ignorant on the subject of video games in general... probably made the statement before they even assessed the value of the PS3.  The fact that he called it a game and the article states "console" several times makes it even more confusing....

I'm just saying it calls for better editing.  Ahh, nevermind.  The crime's still monumentally stupid either way.

Truth be told the cause of this was because they refused to share, it wasn't because of a games console.  Its like stealing money from a bank and then killing everyone else so you don't have to share.
