Microsoft forms European Xbox game publishing team
by John Callaham
Microsoft wants to get more Xbox One and Xbox 360 games to its growing European audience and today, the company announced that it has formed an Xbox game publishing group that will concentrate on releasing games for the European region, specifically France, Germany and the UK.
Gamesindustry International reports that the first game from this group will be Warface, the free-to-play first person shooter from developer Crytek that is already in closed beta testing for the PC. Microsoft's European team will publish the Xbox 360 version in early 2014. More publishing deals will be announced soon.
The new team is led by Lionhead studio head John Needham, who will continue in that job while also working on his new gig. The group will likely release two major titles a year, but Needham said that the group is also " ... looking for a lot of smaller games too for other platform features that we haven't spoken about yet but that are coming for Xbox One."
While the team will look for games that will have a large European audience, Needham says that the titles that will be published by the new group will also have a "worldwide appeal" as well.
