Would you install Leaked Windows 8.1 RTM and use it as everyday OS?

MSAC3ENC.DLL is a legit file. It's present since Vista. Most of the antiviruses are not yet compatible with Win 8.1 so it's just a false positive. I have performed full scan using Malwarebytes, Win defender and Norton 2014. Nothing found.

No, currently happy on Windows 7, might try 8.1, but I suspect it's more of the same, seems there is crap driver support for my laptop.

I would not use an unofficial version of Windows for reasons that it could have spyware or something in it!

It's an untouched .iso, the same thing that's gonna be in stores.

Exactly. Just make sure you get it from a trusted site that has a history of posting clean links. Never had problem.

 

I just like to upgrade and get it over with as soon as I can rather than waiting for msdn.

Although I'm mostly itching to upgrade my new Lenovo X1 I'm thinking of trying it out on my old laptop that I don't really use for much other than web surfing just to see what's up. For my main machine I'll wait for them to release it to the Windows Store and upgrade the proper way. I also don't feel comfortable linking my account online with a leaked Windows build...

Don't worry I hear MAK keys from 8.0 don't work to begin with.

I've installed it (and media center add-on) on laptop that resides in front room to streaming stuff off my pc here in different room, so far I haven't had any issues with it.

So to the question, No not as main os, I am staying with windows 7 for that

Grab the installed key using MagicJellyBean or another key finder, write it down, upgrade, then go back and put that key back in and viola, done.

I had 8.1 preview installed before. Used the provided key to install. Tried the magic app but gave the preview key not the original surface's.

 

Should I start over and do refresh, go back to 8.0 then 8.1?

what a difference a decade makes i guess...a lot of the old timers found this site looking for xp leaks back in the day and didn't hesitate to dl and install a new build every 2 weeks...gonna go walk uphill both ways to install 8.1 :)

Installed mine by mounting the ISO and then upgrading on a restored install of Windows 8.0 that I originally made in the beginning of last November right after the cheap upgrade MS ran. Works perfectly, smooth, not one issue. This is on a Toshiba Qosmio purchased in November 2008. Not one little hiccup here on my end.

In my case, I have both 8.0 and 8.1 on thumbdrives - however, I'm shaking down an AIO based on the WZOR leaks (sorry, x32 fans - this AIO is x64) to replace the standard x64 8.1 on my thumbdrive.

 

The reason for this AIO:

 

1.  It works for clean installs and upgrades, and from any SKU of 8 out there.

2.  It's no bigger than the standard ISO.

3.  Unlike the standard ISO, it can upgrade 8 ProWMC installs.

 

I'm trying to shake down one rather odd bug (in one game, DC Universe Online) - in the game, the F1 key on my keyboard doesn't work if I install the game first in 8.0, then upgrade to 8.1; however, it works fine if I install in 8.1 directly.

I also installed RTM and I'm quite happy with (especially improved Start screen). The only issue I've encountered so far was compatibility problem with ESET Smart Security 6 firewall driver that was causing BSOD at startup (removing .sys file in safe mode temporarily fixed this) that will be likely resolved by the time Windows 8.1 is officially released.
