Love the PC but liking the X1, decisions...

This is a really big dilema ive got, dunno whether drop ?300 on a 8950 when it comes out or pre-order the x1. Before a flame war erupts ill flatten it out, x1's cpu and GPU is custom designed at best theyve just licensed the jaguar cores and gpu from AMD and added whatever they wanted to it. Bin thinking hard do i want to pay ?45 for a game that ill complete in 12 hours and have not much interest in multiplayer also the fact the learning curve of using controllers vs keyboard and mouse is really steep for me... the cloud support aint problem as ive got 7Mbit d/l but within 2 years afetr estate is built ill have 100Mbit from virgin media...

The kinect seems really good cus in an intense game ive felt me hairs on my bak ripple up if kinect hears a drop in the room and the enemies come running towards you that adds to the realism but grr. This isnt a flame bait post im sure the ps4 is just as good but im talking ONLY about PC vs x1 dilema ive got atm. Ive got i7 950, 12 GB ddr3 1GB 6870 atm which is more than capable, just thinking of other possibiliotes. d/l metro last light today max gfx settings, cant see it even breaking a sweat

If you want the kinect features of the Xbox one go for it, the ps4 eye features haven't got much info about them but the general consensus is that the kinect will be much better.

I mostly play on PC, but consoles have their good points.

Also if your current card is able to play most games at max gfx setting, why buy a new one? You can buy one when the card no longer supports max settings on current games and then the 8950 will be a lot cheaper or a much better card will be in that price range for you to purchase.

stick with the AMD next generation GPU which should launch in late september because the console launch will always carry some bug and see how it perform with the launch game and decide it later

the problem with pc gaming is that some games just aren't made for PC, and some games that are made for PC arrive way later. For example, I like sports games like NHL,WWE, and UFC. Nope, cant get them on PC. I would kill to have them on PC. Another example is GTA 5. We know when its released for current gen consoles. No one knows when its coming out for PC. Could be short term, or long term. When GTA 5 comes out, I want to play GTA 5 now.

then theres stuff like Kinect like you pointed out, and all the services.

i have a high end gaming pc

i am planning to sell it

seriously, for next 2-3 years i expect the games on ps4 and xb1 to look very good. near enough to what i am used to.

it does not make sense for me to keep $3000 pc... the games look and run amazing.... but i am sure new console will look good enough, so the diffrence is not so much night and day (as it is with current systems)

all i hope for is: being able to use keyboard + mouse on next gen consoles. they are basically a pc, so i hope someone will make it work

just like some games are way better with conroller, some are better with mouse.

Personally I went with the X1.

I'm not getting rid of my PC but I don't plan to use it.  General use and most gaming will go to the X1, the PC will still be available for more options and older stuff.

My PC has been usually great yet occasionally a gigantic pain in the ass.  I'm appreciating the low hassle nature of consoles now that they'll actually have the power to back it up.

You can do way more with a PC than a console, what general use will you do via a console? Internet Explorer? downloading/watching movies? etc? PC's are much better suited for these things (most general purpose things aren't even do-able on consoles, eg Microsoft office).

I have a gaming/media PC which is hooked up to a 60" LED TV via a 7.2CH Amplifier (hdmi) so I don't really see the advantage of a console for general purpose.

I'll stay on PC, the power of PS4 and X1 simply doesn't compare to current PC gaming rigs (around the price of 600 pounds, more than that they simply slaughter consoles), also next gen consoles if anything are increasing the number of proper PC ports, considering they now use the x86 architecture. You can always buy a console later but I wouldn't go for any one at least not now that they are just in numbers and they haven't show their potential.

Why are PCs much better suited to these things?  They're noisy, put out a lot of heat, and will no longer offer anything I need.  Office?  Great, I use that a couple times a month, I'm sure I can power up my PC for that.

I mean if you're comparing to the Xbox 360/PS3 I'd agree keep the PC, but that's definately not what I'm comparing to.

Have you ever build a PC? because a PC is as noisy as you build it. I have my rig literally next to me and has 6 fans, it's quite silent considering the stuff I need to cool down and offers far more performance. Also, a simply graphics card upgrade will slaughter the next gen consoles power, with my current GPU I already exceed their raw numbers.

I just build my first desktop about a year ago.  I had watched videos on how to do it from newegg and I was scared to death about testing it outside of the case.  Everything worked fine for the first time, but

I had a problem with the memory (made sure I updated the motherboard BIOS and still got memory errors) and with the power supply.  It just went dead and it was a $180 power supply at the time.  Made me very angry because you have to send that stuff back and you can't use your computer until those two get fixed.

I got a new power supply and new memory and no errors and no blue screens and everything works fine and then I got laid off from work.  I paid most of my PC off before getting laid off as I saved up most of the money to pay for it.

It's not loud like my old 2002 Pentium 4 2.0 Ghz PC which until two years ago only had 512 megs of ram (ouch).

I personally don't play many games on this machine as it's mainly for the new business that I am working on.  I will play an emulated game now and then, but I use a lot of VM's and try out software and features.

I have played WarFrame but it's boring and the free to play for me is pretty boring.  The Xbox one just seems better because it's dedicated towards gaming.  I just don't like configuring a game pad and I don't care for keyboard mouse.

Well, PC users are by default to configure things, that's how things have always worked and such things have been always automated, for example I actually play with my DS3 controller simulating a Xbox controller, over bluetooth and it only costs me to turn on the controller and pressing a button, voila, all the games recognize it as an x360 controller. And as for silence we can even go full water-cooling and the noise would be minimal, plus extracting even more heat. Consoles are just pre-assembled systems nowadays that only saves you the time of initial configuration, nothing more. Perhaps you may miss some exclusivities, but then again they haven't been that good as it were on the PS2 and below era.

Had water, the radiator fan was noiser than normal fans.  Woo.

Had a better motherboard, flaked out on me.

Had a working LAN port on this mobo at some point.

My 6870 fan might as well have been a jet taking off whenever I played games, later in its life.  Finally got that out of here at least.

I don't have the money to throw at this thing any more.  Screw it.  It works, and I'm done.

I liked plenty of the games that never showed up on PC from the 360.  I just got my first PS3 so only a few standout non PC titles there so far but I'm sure I'll have more soon enough.

At any rate, I should probably go to bed, so there's that.  G'night.

Those are your particular experiences and don't reflect the ones of many PC enthusiast, Even me building my very own first build was interesting, having throttling on my processor for using a 120+ watts of TDP on a motherboard with only 4 phases, solved this by cooling the VRMs. No fault since day 1 in hardware, only some small perks and yet my performance increase, coming from a laptop, it's huge.

Any updates on my main PC are going to wait for a bit now. I'm going to buy one of the next gen consoles and that should do me for a couple of years, probably more before i get the urge to upgrade the PC.

My gaming PC rig should last out for a little while now so mi can afford to take a rest.

In your case, if your PC rig is playing things fine now then let it carry on doing so. Get the XB1 and then if you really feel to upgrade your PC, do so when you have more money coming in.

I've got a i7 920 and a HD7870 and, at least for me, this is enough to run todays games, and probably tomorrows.  When you're target is a 1080p 22" monitor then you don't need the newest and best top of the end GPU in your PC.  Before this I had a midrange 5770 and was fine with gaming at 720p.

If you're looking to game on a higher res screen, 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 then sure, get the higher end stuff but otherwise you don't need to upgrade as often today on the PC like you used to in the 90's to early 2000's IMO.

I'm fine with gaming on my PC and I still plan to get the XB1, might even swing for a PS4 but that'll be last and way into 2014 probably when they finally have something worth playing that I care about.

I'll probably get an XB1 next year to replace my 360. I used to be a PC Gamer but over the past 2 years since getting the 360, my interest in PC gaming has waned and the 360 usage has gone up. I'll be probably retiring the PC rig in its current form and build an AMD A10 itx system to replace it. The iGPU should be fast enough in Kaveri to handle the last few games I've bought in the past 2 years even if its at 720p with fast enough ram.

In the end, just get what's best for you.

I would just get the X1 for now...great thing about PC is that you can upgrade it whenever you want and people play games for a long time, no matter how old they are, so there's always a community.

I never claimed they did.  Neither do yours.

The most games still being DX9, 32 bit, and optimized for dual cores thing...that's pretty much everyone.

Psionic, 8950 is just an OEM rebadge of the 7950. I think you mean the 9950, when that comes out? Don't waste you money on the 8000 series, it's the same transistor count and fabrication process as the 7000s. PC or X1...may all your decisions be of this nature! Both if possible, if have to choose one, always PC. I'm not a master race gamer as people here know, but for practical reasons a PC is the best choice if one platform is all you want to have.

I don't see the point in going single platform unless you can guarantee everything comes out on PC.

I'm sure I'll get a PS4 eventually as well.
