Real essentials for me (besides work/school-related things):

  • F-lux
  • Shotty (smarter screenshots + proper screenshots with aero)
  • TwoFingerScroll (advanced multifinger gestures and taps for Synaptics touchpads)
  • Dropbox
  • Media Player Classic Home Cinema x86 + LAV decoders + Haali renderer + ReClock (lowest power, very high quality video playback)
  • Adobe Reader
  • NOD32 (the best antivirus by far if you ask me)
  • WinRAR
  • Chrome Stable (beta and dev just aren't really worth it)

Everything else for me pretty much depends on what I need for school/work. Right now that includes:

  • Java
  • Eclipse
  • Glassfish
  • Git
  • PuTTY
  • Android SDK
  • Dropbox
  • Office 2010
  • VirtualBox (with Elementary OS)

And then there's some really personal stuff I just like:

  • Foobar2K
  • Ember Media Manager (to manage my XBMC library)
  • ?Torrent, the last 2.x version
  • Trillian
  • Lightroom 5 or higher
  • Handbrake
  • Avidemux
  • Firefox Aurora
  • GIMP (I love color to alpha)
  • Steam
