J River Media Center.  It's the absolute best media player / manager / streamer / server / organiser there is.

Downside is you have to pay for it, but I buy every three or four versions gladly.  I have repeatedly tried to use free alternatives, like Musicbee or MediaMonkey, but they're just awful in comparison.

I put a collection of some pretty useful stuff on Imgur last week, was quite popular:

As alternative to iTunes: Foobar. It takes a while to set up but it's incredibly fast and feature-rich once you figure out what it can do.

And to everyone who mentioned VLC: boo. MPC-HC (Media Player Classic Home Cinema) is miles ahead of VLC in playback quality and efficiency.

Daemon Tools Lite (Lite version is enough and small)

uTorrent (most lightweight torrent program)

Defraggler(Replaces the Windows Disk Defragmenter even in the registry upon installation)

CCleaner (because we all hate crap)

HwMonitor (free version, no active processes, monitoring when I want it to happen)

Malewarebyte's (Free, casual scans, complete security without any performance cost - pasive protection aka Scan Now)

Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 Free (works great even with Blu Ray, no Nero bloat)

MSE wich integrates my lovely IE11.

Adobe Reader (because I'm serious )

Skype/Yahoo

Revo Uninstaller (free version, no active processes to nag my PC, clean toillet seat after removing programs)

Fraps.

K-lite Codec pack 64 bit with Windows Media Player (I love it) works and reads anything, no errors or performance issues yet, FLAC just Flies.

And my favourite... Cheat Engine! I crack any game engine with it, moar money to buy "expensive items" in SP games, no time for grinding boys!

PeaZip 64 Bit, (performance and free, lovely interface,lightweight,all-archive-reader,constantly updated)

DFX Audio Enhancer (bought it cheap and I have complete control over how my songs exit the speakers .... in a way)

Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium

Apart from plugins and add-ins this list sums it up lads.  I keep my system clean, bloat-free and baby it burns!

+warwagon will change his list soon, Avast turns bad these days , he knows it the traitor. MSE ALL the way!

My must-haves (which I reinstall when I clean-install):

Office 2013 x64 Pro Plus (primarily for Outlook, Word, and Excel - in that order).

VLC (my Ginsu player - it plays every media format I need support for)

Google Chrome - for those Flash-heavy and video-heavy sites (not just YouTube) that cause conniptions in IE (which is my default browser)

Steam - my original game backup/restore service

Origin - my other game backup/restore service

WinRAR - if Windows itself can't decompress an archive, more likely than not, this can

That's the entire list.  It actually used to be longer - ejected from the list are (in no particular order):

Diskeepeer 12 or 11 - mooted by Windows 8.1's DIsk Optimizer.  (I did in fact, point that out to Condusiv - Disk Optimizer is not only no slower in optimization, it does multi-pass optimization without requiring a reboot.) I still recommend Diskeeper for Windows 7.

Microsoft System Essentials - mooted by Windows Defender with Advanced Firewall (basically the same program) included in Windows 8.1

Virtual Clone Drive - mooted by Windows 8.1's included disk-image-mounting support (as part of File Explorer)

Hello,

Well, as far as your list, I dont see any A/V software on your PC at all....

Oh, sorry.  Webroot Secure Anywhere 2013.

Its kinda weird, I have used it on my computer last 2 years and admin another 30 computers with it, and its like viruses dont exist anymore, I cant tell you what year it was last time I had to remove an infection.

And some of these people were notorious for getting infections on a weekly basis, until I switched them - I love this product.

Lets see. Absolute must haves on any new Windows install for me are:

  1. Chrome
  2. Visual Studio
  3. Steam
  4. Notepad++
  5. TortoiseHG

Anything else I use is either part of Windows or not important enough to install until absolutely needed
