TortoiseSVN, Git, etc
Various language runtimes/compilers (Python, Java & Scala, the dotNET gang, Ruby, etc)
Microsoft Office Pro 2010
Sumatra PDF
uTorrent
WinRAR
Dropbox
Notepad++
VMWare
A few choice Explorer plugins (HashTab, InspectEXE, etc)
The SysInternals suite

Adobe CS (Illustrator and Photoshop followed by After Effects and Premiere Pro). It's pretty much the only reason I use Windows.

Real essentials for me (besides work/school-related things):

  • F-lux
  • Shotty (smarter screenshots + proper screenshots with aero)
  • TwoFingerScroll (advanced multifinger gestures and taps for Synaptics touchpads)
  • Dropbox
  • Media Player Classic Home Cinema x86 + LAV decoders + Haali renderer + ReClock (lowest power, very high quality video playback)
  • Adobe Reader
  • NOD32 (the best antivirus by far if you ask me)
  • WinRAR
  • Chrome Stable (beta and dev just aren't really worth it)

Everything else for me pretty much depends on what I need for school/work. Right now that includes:

  • Java
  • Eclipse
  • Glassfish
  • Git
  • PuTTY
  • Android SDK
  • Dropbox
  • Office 2010
  • VirtualBox (with Elementary OS)

And then there's some really personal stuff I just like:

  • Foobar2K
  • Ember Media Manager (to manage my XBMC library)
  • µTorrent, the last 2.x version
  • Trillian
  • Lightroom 5 or higher
  • Handbrake
  • Avidemux
  • Firefox Aurora
  • GIMP (I love color to alpha)
  • Steam

Not exhaustive, an no precise order:

F.lux (reduce eye fatigue)

Winrar

Universal Extractor (legroom.net, unfortunately not updated)

Photoshop cs6 (the last one before the cloud stuff)

Dreamweaver (old version , don't care of newer ones)

Mathematica (even when lazy, to calculate basic stuff)

Ultraedit

Beyond compare

JGsoft RegexBuddy

Meazure (C Thing software)

Babylon Translator (helped me a lot to learn english, , now less useful . There's also linguee.com website )

Foobar2000

VLC Media player

AcdSee (more convenient than regular viewer)

Sumatra pdf reader

Firefox

Filezilla ftp client

Utorrent version 2.2.1 (newer versions are crap)

JDownloader

WindirStat

SpaceSniffer from underzo.it

ImgBurn (bye bye nero burner)

MusicBrainz Picard

Mp3Tag (lately adopted Tag&Rename)

Xrecode II

Replace Winrar with 7zip

Both are good, winrar has a nicer interface and some nice feature such like : repair archive,  test, check compression ratio, add comment to archive ...

Sometimes I try 7-zip when winrar fail to uncompress a particular file.
