Recommended Posts

PAX 2013 is in full swing, with thousands descending on the Seattle Convention center to check out the year's biggest games. This year, in particular, is poised to be especially exciting--with new consoles right around the corner, gamers have their first chance to check out that the next-generation of hardware has to offer.

So, what are PAX gamers most excited for? We asked dozens of attendees which they wanted to buy later this year. Here's their response.

The results aren't surprising. Sony has gotten just about everything right with the PS4 from pricing to game exclusives to PS+ features. Only thing lacking is I think anyone who has used an xbox controller would prefer the ps4 controller would be a bit more like that. If I didn't have to stay focused on college, I would have pre-ordered one.

I mean, two and three there are debatable.

The problem is that people tended to just jump on the PS4 bandwagon even before the Xbox One reveal based on rumors. Microsoft then did a terrible job of conveying any message of the Xbox One's features and instead got bogged down in firefighting and rumor control. All Sony had to do was say "No DRM" and come in $100 cheaper to have everyone jump on board, even when Sony still had many unanswered questions.

I find it crazy that anyone can really have their mind decided when we still don't have concrete answers for features on both of the systems. Its like buying a car by going with exactly what the sales person is telling you, before you even see the car or test drive it, and the car isn't even done yet.

Just like the comment in the video, people asked why they are picking PS4 over Xbox One have either A) No reason or B) Reason based on a feature that was changed. I'm sure that some people made their mind based on games or overall platform, but the majority seem to have just gotten swept up in the PR disaster that Microsoft was dealing with have made their decision based on incomplete and incorrect data.

What system is actually better? Nobody can answer this question until at least November when they are both launched and can be seen in their final state. Either way, PS4 or Xbox One, I can only hope people can try and take a step back, wait until at least the end of October, early November, and then decide based on what the consoles are actually launching with.

Sessler was the most informed guy in that video.

Without even watching the video, I'm going to guess, based on who has posted this, PS4.

Yep, PS4 had a fair amount more people.

Can I not have a PS4 with a Xbox 360/One controller? Pretty please? :/

Try the PS4 controller, one of the youtube channels I've subscribed to is pro-Xbox who also does PC game reviews and he says the PS4 controller is better than the 360 and Xbox One controllers. Its really a matter of preference but the new PS4 controller also caters to larger hands now.

I'd say 1 is too. I mean, you're getting way more for your money with the XB1, the PS4 is shaping up as a false economy.

I don't know why people need to keep trying to push this home.

Yes, we get it, Sony did a better job initially with the PS4.

When it comes to release. Both consoles will sell by the bucket load and will remain to do so. It'll be as close as it was this generation.

Whichever console you pick, you'll get some great games on it.

I bet a lot of these people complaining won't get either console.

A lot of people will be buying it because it's cheaper.  Not many people are buying it because of the games.  Most people that I have heard are going to play "Watch Dogs".

That kind of tells you how bad things are for the quality of the launch for the PS4.

Anyway, I don't really think that matters much in the long run.

The Xbox One is going to sell out for Christmas and everyone hasn't seen the marketing for Xbox One.  "IF" the marketing plan is clever and Microsoft spends the money

to market this thing (we don't know the marketing number yet), then I really think this thing is going to sell like crazy for Christmas.

There are a few games that are going to be higher quality than some people want to admit.

There are people that are not going to be able to resist the hype and there are others that like I said are going to buy this thing because of what it can do.

There are a lot of "Joe six pack" consumers out there that have never seen this magic before and it can be a game changer.

Now, next year is a different story.  Microsoft needs to come up with something to keep it price competitive or risk losing market share.

What I recommend that they do is start subsidizing with a model like a cellular phone.   Pay a lower up front cost to take on a gradual cost over time.

Most people here have a smartphone so they get the pricing model.....

X Amount of money for X amount of years of Xbox Live Gold.

Ha I love that even the mods are getting tired of AB :p

I'm not surprised that most people are going for PS4. Despite that the xbox has  a LOT going for it, the problem is they simply got their initial message so so wrong. They communicated as poorly as possible, and they suffered a tidalwave of bad press.

Now that things like social media/facebook/twitter are so prevalent and anyone can get their opinion out into the world with a click of a button, bad press is magnified so much more than it ever was, with good press experiencing the same effect.

Xbox has gone beyond looking at it objectively now, many people have made the decision not to purchase one just by going on general public opinion/bad press/what they're friends are getting.  That last point is an important one, gaming is a social past time now and what friends are getting is a very important factor as these decisions are often made in groups these days.

Got to feel a little sorry for Microsoft now, they had some really, really great ideas, however communicated them so so wrong.  Now those good ideas have been diluted, such as now not having an online connection as a given for each console so developers cannot assume they can make use of Microsofts cloud platform meaning any benefit is now minimal. The list goes on.

I am going for a PS4 initially myself. The extra cost of a One means I could get ~2 extra games for the PS4. (I know the One comes with Fifa, but i'm not too interested in that game anyway). I may go for a One in future, but it depends if in time it offers compelling enough exclusives to warrant that hefty upfront cost.
