How to make Windows 7 faster on a older PC

Recommended Posts

If it is DDR, yes, it is expensive, it is hard to get nowadays.

You're kidding right? I've got bags of it here and it's worth next to nothing.

As for the mobo only supporting 1GB max, well... i'd challenge that, some accept more than what's stated. Even 1GB would make it run better though. (Y)

yea, old out of production RAM actually does cost an insane amount if you were to buy them. But if you already have it of course it's worth next to nothing to you. Maybe you can ship him some.

1) Add more ram

2) Look on eBay for a Core 2 duo machine for cheap and add more ram to that 4GB and get an SSD.

3) Get an SSD

You'll be a lot faster

All of these actions involve replacing hardware, which is going to cost some money.  Given the age of the system (2001-2002 vintage?) it may be better to simply save up for buying a new computer, though.

That's probably the best advice you are going to get.

Well I just got Firefox 23.01 installed on it and actually not that bad in speed.

Of course blocking ads though to make it faster and nothing better than Ad Muncher works for that. Sorry Ad Block Plus uses to many resources for older PCs compared to Ad Muncher.
